Should we have a dessert table at our wedding reception?

Stephanie, on March 10, 2017 at 4:50 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

Do you think a dessert bar is a cool idea for the reception? We won't be having kids at our reception, but i really have my heart set on a dessert table; however, I don't know if I'm I will have a dessert overload since people are going to have dessert with their entree and we're having our wedding cake. Thoughts?

It's whatever you want! I've never heard of the term "dessert overload". Impossible Smiley tongue

Just remember that more variety usually means more work for the caterer/baker so price goes up. but I think having a dessert bar would be a great idea!

We chose to skip the dessert table and instead go with Late night snacks (sliders/pizza/chicken tenders, etc). I figured that will help soak up the alcohol!

You could make the "dessert table" your favor? Supply boxes or a foodie bag for people to fill, and then they can snack on the sweets if they get the munchies later. Just have to make it things that won't go bad.

FH and I were at a wedding where the bride and groom did that with trail mix and it was a great snack for later.

If it was in my budget I would have one. One of the best receptions I've been to had a dessert table and liquor bar with chocolate shot glasses! Seriously look at this plate of amazing I binged on!

ETA: I ate wedding cake that night too, no shame! I danced it off, right?

Dessert tables are awesome! We started with a cookie table, but our catering package includes desserts so we're also having brownies, cupcakes, and lady-locks plus our cake. I will be eating some of each; dessert overload? No such thing lol.

We are having a cupcake bar instead of a traditional cake and are so excited!

I'm a little confused. Do you mean a dessert will be served with dinner AND you'll have wedding cake AND a dessert table, too? Or is the dessert table the dessert with dinner? I absolutely love dessert, but I think desserts three separate times would be overkill for a lot of people. There's nothing wrong with it if you love the idea and don't mind spending the money on it. But be prepared for a lot of waste and maybe provide cute little takeout boxes for people to take some desserts to go.
