Should we elope? Courthouse wedding?

Been back & forth about just going to elope and having a small ceremony & small reception which I wanted to do in my backyard but it won't be done for months until we can save more money to have it done. So we were just thinking of going to the courthouse and eventually once our yard is done we can have a small celebration with our families/friends by exchanging our vows in front of everyone & a small reception. Has anyone gotten married at the courthouse and do you regret it?

I got married at the courthouse with his mom, my parents, and our son - I don't regret it at all! We are hosting a formal vow renewal in November, which is about a year after our wedding. If I could offer any advice, it would be to still go "all out" for your courthouse wedding. It is your wedding after all. I wore my gown, had a bouquet, photographer, hair/make-up - and then we hosted dinner at our favorite restaurant.

It's up to you both what you'd rather prefer. If you end up regretting it (which I doubt you will, you married the love of your life!) you could always host a vow renewal and/or anniversary party years down the road which is similar to a wedding reception and celebrate your love that way.

What is your reasoning for considering a elopement? What have you booked and what money would you lose by cancelling?
Your wedding is in November... have you already sent invites??

As some said... backyard weddings aren't always cheaper....
What's the rush of getting married right away? If you are saving money why not just do it all the same day?
Nothing wrong with a courthouse wedding but maybe you can wait save the money and do the courthouse and reception the same day?
