Should we do engagement photos?

Jessica, on July 17, 2010 at 1:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Engagement pictures are included in our photography package but I honestly don't know if we should do them. FH could care less (I think he would prefer not to since I'll make him wear blues for some of them) and I just don't know what I'd do with them. I'm horrible at staged pictures and all the engagement photos I've seen friends take look cheesy and overdone. Is there something you're supposed to do with them that I'm missing?

We didn't do engagement photos... I wouldn't have really known what to do with them either, except maybe put them on save the dates (which I also didn't do lol) Maybe you could see if your photographer will do a trash the dress session after the wedding, if you wanted to do that.

We didn't do e-photos either, my photographer offered e-photos or a bridal session. I am getting the bridal session instead and using one of the pics for the wedding announcement in the paper. Maybe you photographer will do the same if you aren't already getting the bridal session. Besides the bridal session gives you a chance to try out hair & make-up with your dress Smiley smile

If your photographer has already included them in the price, I say do them. But if you don't like staged pics, tell the photographer to follow you around for his specified amount of time while you do something you love. He could take some pics while you're walking through the zoo or at a local park. He could snap pics at a ball game. Whatever. If you're going to be paying for it, you might as well use it. Otherwise I'd ask him for a discount.

Many people use their e-pics for their weddings or wedding purposes... (like making a portrait of you two on an easel at your reception location or using them on your STDs). And personally, I am a huge fan of pictures! I would definitely take them, especially if they are included in your package. However, if you insist on not taking them, I would talk to your photographer to see if he could exclude the e-pics from pricing. Good luck!

Our couples love doing engagements sessions, they use it for the wedding, some ideas are, a guest book, a print to show our guests, slideshows... plus is nice to have some good pictures of before the wedding. The way we see engagements, they are more about the couple's personality, no poses, or very few of them. A lot of people get anxious, but it is also a good way to get conformable with the camera and your photographers, because on your wedding day, photographers are the only people that will follow you anywhere you go. =) Check some of our engagements!!!

I loved doing our e-pics. We just done them last weekend. We will be getting ours back on Monday. My profile picture is one that she went through and edited. My FS is such a goof that he had me, my best friend, him, and the girl doing the pics laughing so hard we were crying. But we are paying $150 for the e-pics, everyone getting ready, the ceremony, the reception, and the pictures that you do with the wedding party and family. For us, it was a chance to have more pictures made of us without being posed and being ourself dressed in jeans, boots and a t-shirt (and in the case of the FS, in some of the pics, he is wearing the camo hate that I despise. But I was nice and let him wear it in some of the pics.)

It's totally up to you, but if it's already included I would either do it or ask if you can have something else in place of it (like a print credit or upgrade the album).

We are not sending save-the-dates but we are having e-pics taken. THey are probably going to be the only nice photos taken of the two of you in normal clothes. I think I'd rather have e-pics in frames around our house than a million wedding pictures, but that's just my opinion. Also, they don't have to be so posed/staged. If your photographer takes a photojournalistic approach he or she can follow behind you while on a walk and capture some really priceless moments. Smiley smile They don't have to look overdone.

I didn't do epics, but I also hate stage, posed photos. I told the photog we will have limited posed shots, I think we 7 out 823 that are the family group shots. the rest are just candid photos of him following us around. Just tell her you want more of relaxed feel and not posed, in my opinion those are the best ones anyway.

or how about asking if you can use the epic session for a trash the dress session after the wedding? you and your hubby go somewhere cool and take photos in your dress in unusual places. That would be great!

I like the idea of trash the dress instead of epics but don't know of anyone who has actually done it. Any opinions on them?

I didnt do e-pics. I used a picture from the weekend we got engaged for save the dates. & I'm not having wedding photos taken professionally, either. A friend is doing them with her Nikon Rebel.

Sharon did trash the dress, and they turned out beautifully! Ask her how she liked the experience though, because even though the pics are gorgeous idk if she liked it.

I loved it, it was relaxing (i bought a $50 bridesmaid dress) as we did it in the ocean. lots of fun! Analy did one in her actual dress, but she didn't get it wet, she just took some great photos in an unusual place..i love the one of her chugging jagermeister in her dress!

This is great! I was wondering the same thing. I chose the option to do them but since we live near the coast and hurricane season has begun, every time we schedule the session it rains horribly and now next month looks pretty busy for me at work so I don't think we'll be able to get them done until around August and our wedding is in October. I'm seriously considering not doing them and was wondering who hadn't had them taken and what they thought about not doing them. This is a great post! Thanks everyone!

Damn Sharon!! That pic of you stradling him on the beach with the waves behind you is pretty freakin' cool. It does lose just a little bit of the hottness with you "bustin' a gut" laughing though. LMAO

MDLS - if they come with your package, what about TTD or boudoir?

Well both of our moms want e-pics and since they come with the package and FH doesn't care either way I'm thinking we'll do them. I would still love to do a TTD so I may talk to our photographer and see if we can work something out. She's a family friend so we are getting a great discount. Thanks for the advice ladies!!
