Should i have my wedding at an adults-only resort? What does adults-only really entail?

Victoria, on November 16, 2019 at 11:06 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

We are getting married near Cancun, MX (probably Riviera Maya) sometime late 2020. All the resorts I have fallen in love with (Secrets, La Blanc, Excellence etc..) are all adults only

My ideal wedding involves:
* MUST Children at the reception. Nice to have at the ceremony

* A resort with a few adults-only pools. ( I don't want a bunch of obnoxious kids splashing in every pool)

Does adults-only really mean you can't have any children at the ceremony? What about babies?

How do these neighboring resorts like Dream Mujeres and Secrets work? Would I really have to have all my events at the kid-friendly resort (Dreams)?

Writing this out, it does sound like a bit dumb question. I am just thinking optimistically about one of you being able to help me - an amateur on weddings - out.

Adults only in Mexico usually means no one under the age of 15. I’m not sure if the adults only part would apply to your private event, but what about the rest of the time your guests are there? They would likely have to stay at another resort if they have children.

Adults only is adults only- no kids, not even babies. Most resorts the age exception starts at 15 or 16. As far as I know private events are not exempt from this rule, so children would not be welcome for any of your events if they’re taking place at an adults only resort.

Most of the ones I’ve seen don’t even make exceptions for events, even if they stay somewhere else. If you must have kids, you need to find another type of place.

Adult-only resorts are adults only, that’s it. No kids, no babies, not even for private events.

So at secrets, it means no kids under 18. We were actually looking at dreams playa Mujeres because it is physically attached to the secrets, so adults can walk back and forth as they’d like. But, they will not let kids, even teenagers in the wedding party, onto secrets property. So, something to be mindful of, but the dreams is beautiful. They have a Facebook page for weddings that you can ask brides all sorts of questions so I’d definitely encourage you to join that!
