Should I Have a Wedding Website?

Anon1, on August 25, 2015 at 11:48 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

We are having a small, intimate wedding with roughly 90-100 guests. I am wondering if it would be worth it for us to make a website? I love the idea of it. However, I'm concerned that people who are not invited will see the website and A) assume they are invited and B) be upset when they realize they aren't invited. Thoughts?

That's not small or intimate, so yes. Just password protect it.

100 isn't a small/intimate wedding on these boards. 20 people or so is that.

Why would people see the website? Don't post it anywhere, it should just be listed on the invitations.

I posted the wedding site on FB. I have a lot of military people who I keep in touch with across the states. I don't care if people assume, they shouldn't assume. So far I have 0 negativity from people accessing the website.

i'll edit: 0 negativity meaning no one's complained, and if they do, I do not have a fuck to give them.

Instead of password protecting it, you can also make it non-searchable if you are using WW. That's what I did. It will make it harder for people to just randomly run across it. I was also paranoid about crashers, so I left the ceremony date and location up, but took off the times. For that many people, I would definitely make a site. And if people run across it anyway, well....hopefully they'll get over it.

The main thing about wedding planning is people won't tell you negativity to your face. I just went to a cash bar wedding and heard about 100 people complaining at the bar. Do you think anyone told the bride?

I'm not saying posting wedding websites to social media to people who aren't invited is awful, but just know people may be side-eyeing you and not telling you.

With 90-100 guests I'd definitely make a wedding website! It's perfect for additional information including travel and accommodations. People definitely won't "accidentally" see it unless you post it somewhere publicly (which you definitely shouldn't do) or unless people are searching for it specifically Smiley smile But just because they found your wedding website through google does not mean they are invited, and I can't imagine anyone interpreting it that way!

We actually paid for our webspace and we love our wedding website. After the wedding, we will put the link to our photographs so everyone can download whatever picture they want for free. This was one of the major winning aspects about our photographer. All downloads are free. We will also put our wedding video when we get that back too. There's one person who has asked if he was invited and then continued to say things like, "Well since I'm not invited to your wedding...." it's funny because I've seen him once in 12 years for about a half an hour. It's not like we were good friends back in the day either. I don't really care what people think about me posting wedding things in my FB page. We're paying a shit ton of money for a giant party. I'm allowed to be super excited for all of it whenever I want. If someone gets tired of it... There's an unfollow button for a reason...

Yes! At first I was against it and thought it was a waste of time. But I am so glad our caterer talked me into it.

Technology is awesome! I used the wedding wire and it was nice to see all the ideas that the wedding wire offered. Plus I did make a video for our engagement and it was fun posting it on FB. It worked for us, my family was out of state. So they appreciated keeping the updates. It is totally your choice.

Same here having an extremely small wedding and we don't want any random person showing up. We opted for evite for our guests only, and those people know how to find our registry.
