Should a last dance be fast, or slow?

Abby, on June 7, 2014 at 7:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Trying to figure this one out, and I can see merit to both sides. I'm currently considering "I'll Follow You Into The Dark" by Death Cab for Cutie or "Sitting On The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding, because our marriage will be on the bay in San Francisco. It seems appropriate, I guess. But do you think that ends the party on a down beat?

This is a good question.. I want there to be a last "slow dance" but I think I wanna end the night with "I believe in a thing called love" by the darkness. My only concern about ending with a really upbeat song is that people want to keep going after! Haha

We're having a live band & DJ. FH wants the band to play the last hour. They asked this very question. FH told them to play what they feel. Great!! One less decision.

My XH worked in a wedding band. They always ended the night with "Shout" by the Isley Brothers. I think it's better to go big and go home.

My mom and I have this thing. Whenever we go on vacation together, it never fails (the last 3 times at least) that the movie bridesmaids plays one of the nights were wherever we are. So for the last song of the night I'm playing "hold on" by wilson phillips for my mama Smiley smile

We're doing slowish so guests won't be keyed up and will be ready to go home.

Our DJ suggested somewhere between very energetic and slow. You don't want to end on too high of a note.

We did slow. It was nice to see all the other happy couples also get a chance to have a slow dance Smiley smile

I'm am leaning towards slow and using "Could I have this dance" by Anne Murray. (It was the last dance song for an uncle/aunt and seems like a really good song to use)

Our DJ said typically its a fast song that everyone knows, like Dont Stop Believing by Journey or something along those lines. i want a last slow song and a last fast song. the fast song will be the actual last song. my last slow song will be Rewind by Rascal Flatts, even though its about how he wants his girl back, i look at it as literally wanting to rewind the night we just had. then i will end it with a fast happy song..........that is our LAST music choice we need to make and we havent yet.

Our plan is a slow song, that sounds like "hey, it's almost over" followed by a silly/upbeat song (in our case, Bohemian Rhapsody - FH's request).

Oh I thought that we would do don't stop believing by journey but now I see Stephanie said I've had the time of my life from dirty dancing..... great, now I have to decide!

I think our 1st song after our 1st dance and father/daughter mother/son dance will be nothing but a good time by poison, lol! I love me some 80's hair bands!!

"Sitting On The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding is the song we're using for exiting the ceremony! Haha! We're having a beach-themed wedding right by the ocean, so yeah, it seemed like a good song for it.

For the last song, we're doing "I'm a Believer." I think a fast song would end the night on an awesome note.

You can always have 2 choices ready, then decide near the end of the night which one feels right. I prefer to end on something fun, something people can sing on their way out the door (like "500 miles by the Proclaimers), but it really depends on what suits you.

I have some fun ideas for non-slow songs here: http://rnbweddings.com/the-best-1st-and-last-songs-for-weddings-dances/

I say upbeat - you want people to leave the party on a high note. We did "Save the Last Dance for Me" by Michael Buble and it was so much fun to end with. The dance floor was full.
