If so, what shots did you do? My bartender is suggesting like fancy ones like royal flush, lemon drops, etc.

Right? I was shocked when the coordinator at our venue said that shots were allowed and for free.

Shots at my wedding were $12 a piece so no shots were offered except to me of course and my cousin who is diabetic and can’t have mixed drinks, beer or wine. Everyone was fine with all the other choices. We had beer, wine, 3 signature drinks and the full open bar. As it was my bar tab was $7,000 for 100 adults. I can’t imagine how much it would have been with shots too.

I haven't seen anything in our contract about whether or not shots are allowed - but now I'm curious so I'm going to ask.

Either way, I don't feel the need to prohibit people from doing shots or pre-select which shots I think they should do. If they want to do shots, good for them! If they want to stick to mixed drinks/beer/wine, that's great too. Not my job to tell people what they should/shouldn't drink.

I haven't seen anything about shots in my contract either - as long as we get out 1 day liquor insurance I think everything is acceptable. We are providing our own alcohol so I was just taken aback about the fact that my bartender actually wants to take time to make shots with a approx. 220 people wedding.... hah

Our venue told us that they could not allow shots if that’s what we wanted. We said it was fine if people wanted to do shots. We know our crowd and we weren’t worried about any of them getting obliterated just because they found out shots were included in the open bar. We didn’t have any fancy shots though. My husband and I had double shots of tequila with friends before dinner and several after.

Lol, an eager bartender is a great thing!

It sounds like, based on his suggestions, he might actually want to pre-mix batches of the "shots" rather than make each one as they're ordered. If you were planning on doing signature drinks, you could do what a PP did and offer signature shots instead?

I'm not sure if our venue offers shots or not. They didn't say anything about it, which makes me think that they do (we're having top-shelf open bar). Then again, I've been to several weddings where they've only offered straight liquor on the rocks, which really isn't much different.

We thought about asking them to not offer shots, since we have a lot of big drinkers in our crowd and in our family (mine mainly), but decided to trust the bartender to do his/her job and serve people responsibly. Doing shots at the wedding is sort of tradition in our family.

No shots allowed at my venue & if they were I would not allow them. I know my crowd and it's not a good idea.

I had a friend that did jello shots later in the evening that she was able to make and bring with her.... is this a possibility if you want to have them.

Our bar situation is a little different. We're getting married in a restaurant and their bar menu is a huge part of their identity. Because of this, they are keeping all bottles in place and all drinks will be made available to our guests. BUT, my FMIL made us nervous when she said she went to a catered party with an open bar and people bought $300+ bottles of wine and hundreds of dollars worth of shots. We don't think our guests would do that to us, but we're not taking any chances. We are having an open bar, but it's a limited menu. Any drinks more expensive than what's on our menu, the guests have to pay out of pocket. We haven't decided on shots yet for the open bar.

My venue doesn't allow shots, so that makes it easy for us. Shots can be fun, but I don't think we will miss them.

I think signature shots would be a really fun idea! I love lemondrop shots. We won't be having them because we're trying to keep our bar menu as simple as possible but if I could I'd do a signature shot with a punny wedding-related name!

Our venue doesn't allow shots, but we wouldn't anyway. I think it depends on your crowd. Our crowd would NOT do well with shots, it would get way too crazy. But I've been able to get them at some weddings and it's been fun to take one and get the party started. I think a fancy shot is better, then you can mix the liquor with juice so it's less potent too.

Our venue didn't allow it, and our crows isn't really the shot drinking type anyways. Smiley smile

We're not doing them because my package only allows 1 signature drink and I want it to be an actual drink. We *could* still do full bar for an extra charge of course - they require the hiring of security if we do an open bar. So I think we'll pass on that. Aaaanyway. If I were to have shots, I'd just do tequila shots and be done with it. Easy peasy. If I had to do a "mixer" type shot probably a pineapple upside down cake. Personally I'm not big on shots in general but those two are the only ones I can handle and not want to immediately puke. LOL.
FWIW, we're having an after-party where there will most certainly be a bar set up with tequila shots, a few other things, and a few jars of moonshine. Smiley smile

No shots or doubles were available from my open bar. I didn't have any problem with that, if people wanted a shot they could have it on the rocks.

My venue has a no shots policy and will refuse to serve shots to anyone. I’m fine with that. 😂

If my guests want to do shots, they can go ahead. They're adults and should be able to handle themselves.

We're not offering shots. Nothing good comes from it. There will be plenty of booze, people don't need shots of anything.
