Shots?

Future Mrs. T, on April 3, 2018 at 9:06 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 42

Are ya'll allowing shots at your open bar? I met with my bartender this weekend and he was asking what shots I wanted? I thought that usually open bar weddings people just stick to mixed drinks... but knowing my friends Im sure some would want shots. How did yall handle this? did you allow shots? If so, what shots did you do? My bartender is suggesting like fancy ones like royal flush, lemon drops, etc.

I believe shots are available at my bar, but we're not openly advertising that. I think people tend to stick to mixed drinks at a wedding, but maybe that's my crowd. This article seems to be really helpful: https://www.brides.com/story/should-we-serve-shots-at-our-wedding

If you do plan on having shots, fancy ones would probably be better than straight tequila.

No shots until after dinner is what I told the catering team. After that then whatever!

We did signature shots because we love taking shots to toast with friends. I'm pretty sure I took at least five shots with our different friend groups. Our bartender made two really delicious signature shots (not just straight alcohol) and it was so fun! The caterer even brought fun cute shot glassware (they had mini stems).

I guess when you have liquor, there's always the option of shots; however, we are not openly disclosing that, as I believe most people will stick to mixed drinks, wine and beer. We are bringing separate liquor for the wedding party to "pre-game" beforehand, if they so desire to.

Our venue didn’t allow shots. Most of the places we have attended weddings at didn’t allow them unless it was a signature thing like what @MrsBdeG did.

We're allowing shots all night and as soon as the guests pile into Cocktail Hour.

My venue didn’t allow shots (we had a premium open bar) and given my crowd, I don’t think anyone cared or even asked for one.

We will not be offering shots, we are doing consumption bar where we pay at the end of the night, and are offering beers, wines, and mixed drinks only... there will be a menu 😊

I dont think shots are allowed at my venue. I need to double check, and if they are I am saying no to them. We are providing a full bar with beer, wine, and liquor. I dont think we need shots too.

I’ve never thought about it. I just assume that open bar means you can order whatever you want.
I’m not a fan of shots, but I don’t see why I should prevent someone else from doing them. This concept of hard liquor being worse than beer and wine is odd to me. I can think of some guests who would take a few celebratory shots and still be much more sober and responsible than our beer drinkers.

No shots over here. Our bartenders did not offer it. We have a variety of drinks though.

I 100% agree with you. I think our venue’s policy on shots was more because people can do several in a shorter time frame than it takes to drink a few beers takes and thus get drunk faster. We have a lot of friends who get far more drunk on beer or wine than the ones who drink liquor though.

Most of the weddings I have been to shots where the only drinks that you had to pay for at the open bar. My guess is to discourage people from taking them but I guess it could have been a venue policy as well. Our Venue allows any shots to be taken. We haven't thought much of it honestly. We have a full bar so if someone wants a shot they can just order whatever they want.

My venue allows shots but only if the bride and/or groom are present which I thought was interesting. Haven't decided if we'll be allowing shots but I also didn't realize having signature shots was an option.

Shots were not allowed at every single venue I looked at, I'm surprised they're offering it to you. If it's already an open bar, I don't think you need shots, but if you are going to have them, I'd do something fruity and easy-drinking like an upside down pineapple (vanilla vodka & pineapple juice, shaken & poured, then a small float of grenadine on top).

That’s really interesting. I hadn’t thought to ask. Curious about our venue now.

Shots were not "allowed" or advertised at the bar but they did them "on ice" by request.
