Shots shots shots shots shots shots

Gracie Lou Freebush, on March 17, 2017 at 10:12 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 50

I really like this idea that I saw on pinterest. I think I would set them out near the entrance of the reception area. They would be by the board that has the table assignments, instead of having the assignments listed on the toothpicks like in the picture.

I don't imagine everyone would enjoy straight tequila shots, what would be your alcohol pick that would be crowd friendly? So far I've thought jello shots or a fruity something.

ETA: My venue allows shots, wedding is adult only, several bartenders will be on site overlooking the alcohol that is served.

Check with your venue that shots are permitted. Many of the venues that I looked at had a strict no shots policy.

Most people I know are obsessed with Fireball. Do you have a lot of shot takers in your group?

I was raised in an alcohol free home, as was my mother, grandmother, etc., so that idea would be a big fail, in my family.

My drink of choice is red wine.

P.S. None of the venues we considered allowed shots, I assume for liability reasons.

@teamgrz, I did, and it is allowed as long as the alcohol comes from a vendor. (which it will be)

I wouldn't want tequila shots, maybe a lemon drop or something like that.

Check with your venue first about this though. Mine doesn't allow shots, and I think this is becoming a lot more common due to liability issues.

    I second Fireball.

Our venue does not allow shots. But I have been to a wedding that did the shot thing, I would say about 1/2 the guests did them, that's it.

Personally--I'm requiring my bar tender to NOT serve any shots...bc of how rowdy a large # of our guests can be with straight liquor.

However this is a fun idea if it fits your crowd-honestly, the only shot I WOULD take is a tequila shot....Sweet shots will for sure end in me puking at the end of the night.

This looks like a logistical nightmare. Also expensive.

Who is going to prep these and add the names, set them on the table in alpha order?

What happens when someone bumps into the table and knocks them all over?

@Kia9 you know what, you're right. Fireball usually is a big hit when it comes shot time. And yes, lots of shot takers and drinkers. Our families definitely don't have anyone against drinking.

@Nonna that would be a logistical nightmare if it was as pictured, I agree. I wouldn't have them with the names, basically just on a table so no need for much prep work. My alcohol vendor and DOC team would set the shots up. Big alcohol budget.

Most of my venues won't allow shots at all, and there is a serious liability issue with having them unsupervised in an area where under 21 year old people have access to them.

The best wedding I ever went to did this, but with glasses of champagne with little flags on swizzle sticks for escort cards.

People are adults, so managed not to knock them all over, the planner set it up (one of the grooms owned the planning company) and it was a childfree wedding - so no worries there. And bubbles are slightly more universal than tequila.

That being said, our official, hosted after party is at an upscale Mexican restaurant and tequila will be featured, so I would love this. I would prefer tequila or whisky to something fake like fireball, but honestly, I would take a party shot of anything that was offered like this. Definitely know your crowd though!

@swissms that is such a great idea that I hadn't thought about, especially if the toasts could be timed to be when the guests have the champagne. Thanks! And I also don't really have concern about people knocking them over... for the same reason you said and also it is a big reception area. I hired a DOC team specifically to set stuff up so me and my family don't have to so that also isn't an issue.
