It's hard to say without seeing a picture of your dress but unfortunately most wedding dresses have multiple layers and finished hems, so they have to be hemmed by someone who knows what they're doing. A less expensive alternative might be to try your local Facebook marketplace for someone who sews on the side.

Yeah 5'1" here so I need everything hemmed. My skirt was complicated and layered and I'm paying 400-500 but that's better than the 800-900 I was quoted by someone else. The cost of the alterations can even be larger than the cost of the dress. However, you will have to have a hem if you dont want to walk around holding your dress up. It's hard to walk in a poofy floor length dress even at the right length. If you have any train at all, you'll want a bustle. You can check around for decent quotes but this is something for which you'll need to make room or get someone to help. Any family or friends have experience. Also check reviews. I've been freaked out by the alteration horry stories where girls had to buy new dresses. I have my final appointment on Friday to pick it up. I'm praying that it fits right, isn't too long and that they didnt tear the tulle. Thought I saw some things on my last appt. The dress has to fit you luv.
