Shopping for wedding dress while losing weight

Mrsholme, on October 22, 2022 at 8:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 5
Hey y’all! We are planning on getting married at the end of June, BUT I’m planning on losing 40-50 lbs before then . When should I buy my dress to allow adequate time for alterations? Thank you!

The timing depends on the place you want to get a dress from. The online shops may allow you to try on the gowns and then keep the one you want. This of course assumes their gowns are in stock. That might be a better option than getting a dress through a boutique and having a 6 month delivery time. But some boutiques have dresses available to try and take home. So if you think that will work, you can just locate the shop that can do this.

Unless you are buying off the rack, most boutique stores with custom dresses need 6 months for made to order and shipment and then allow 2 months for final alterations.

Unless you are planning to buy a sample dress off the rack, you should be shopping for your dress NOW. You only have 8 months until your wedding, and most bridal boutiques need 6-8 months to get your dress in; plus you’ll need time for alterations. And unless you’ve had weight loss surgery (where you will definitely lose weight quite quickly), I would suggest ordering your dress in your current size. A LOT of brides have the intention of dropping a significant amount of weight quickly before their wedding…. But it never happens. Don’t put that stress on yourself (stress is also the enemy of weight loss)! Have your bridal consultant show you dresses that can easily be altered down a few sizes in the event you DO lose weight. And then if you don’t, you still have a dress you love that fits.

Definitely start ASAP! Order your current size so if you don't lose as much weight by the time of your wedding you still have a dress that fits. My dress took 6 months to come in, some are taking even longer. You can get alterations done about 1-2 months before.
