Sew-in straps for wedding dress

Natalie, on March 20, 2018 at 9:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21
Is anyone here adding straps to their strapless dress? They had a pair at the bridal shop where I bought my dress that are perfect, but they're $250. I already spent my max budget for the dress, and will need minor alterations, I just feel like that's a lot! I haven't had much luck finding anything online, I was hoping someone may be looking for the same and found it. Thanks!

I purchased a belt and used that to be added in as halter straps. I love how it turned out. Was easy and cheap as an alterations fix.

I am getting cap sleeve type things added by my seamstress who is altering my dress. She's using what she cuts off the hem and creating them.

Maybe when they do alterations they can use some of that material to do straps. I know I will have a whole foot cut from the bottom of my dress because I’m a shorty Smiley smile

I ended up getting straps from the bridal shop where I purchased the dress. I was a little shocked by the price too. They were $280 but they were perfect.

I too purchased a belt and will be made into a detachable halter. That way I can change it and take it off or keep it in while dancing to keep the girls from popping out! Ha!

I'm considering adding spaghetti straps to my strapless dress. I fell in love with the dress online that had the straps but I like it strapless as well, which is how it came. It's probably the thing I'm most indecisive about lol

Instead of straps, I am adding off-the-shoulder straps to my dress with the tulle that the bottom of my dress is made of. My bridal boutique ordered extra tulle for only $10 and my seamstress is adding them on. Granted, the alterations are more expensive than the actual fabric but I love having this customized element to my dress!

My MOH had sleeves added to her strapless dress during her wedding. She was a very "top heavy" bride and wanted the added support and comfort knowing she wouldn't be exposed on her day.

I don't know how much she paid for the sleeves or to have them added but it really brought the dress together and the confidence it gave her in the dress was well worth it!

If you need the dress hemmed mabe the seamstress can take the extra material and make sleeves out of it for you? Just an added thought.

Added straps almost always look like an afterthought to me.

Woah, that does seem like a crazy expensive price! What kind of straps are you looking for?

I looked into this as well, but didn't end up going with the strapless dress anyways. I didn't see anything close to that price though.

Lol! They did mention that, I will have to ask again. The straps that they have were jeweled and matched the belt that's already part of the dress perfectly. But I guess with a nice necklace lace straps would be enough. Thanks!

These were lace with jewels, they matched the belt perfectly! (Pictured here) Maybe plain lace from the bottom hem of the dress will be enough. I don't need them for support, only for the look, I feel my shoulders are too broad for strapless but I just LOVED the dress otherwise! And felt so comfortable!

I thought about that too. Also why I want to make sure they at least match really well! Hopefully I can pull it off!

I felt the same way. I just didn't like the strapless look on myself. One suggestion the dress shop gave me (I know the owner, and she was trying to help lower costs), was to actually use what was intended to be a belt as straps. The belts were significantly less expensive than straps, and looked exactly the same. I wish I still had the photos. Might be worth looking into. Lace from the hem would probably be ideal for you though.
