Servers in catholic wedding

Whitney, on September 19, 2018 at 10:15 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
We are getting married in the Catholic Church and we’re trying to decide if we should invite the servers for our wedding ceremony and their families to the reception? My FH is Catholic, but I am not yet. My 10 year old son (who is not yet Catholic either) goes to the Catholic school, and 2 of his best friends from school will be the servers for our wedding ceremony. We will have them at the rehearsal so the kids can practice for the ceremony, but should we also send them an invitation to the wedding & reception? We are not super close with either family, but I wouldn’t mind if they were at our reception. I also don’t want them to feel obligated to come. I’m not sure that they will know a lot of people or feel comfortable at the reception either. Thoughts? Thanks!

My daughter’s altar server will be a girl she baby sat for years. The girl had mentioned to her mom that she wished could serve at the wedding. Her request made it through the grape vine and my daughter happily asked her to fill the role. Then we had the same dilemma - should she invite her and her family to the reception? She decided that since she also sat for the families other 2 children and my H and I had a close relationship with the parents for a time, that they would all be invited. I’ve heard again through mutual friends that they were really touched and excited to receive their invitation! I will say though that she did not send them a STD and waited until closer to invitation time to make the final decision based on budget and available space.

I think it would be a nice touch since they are his friends. I'm a more the merrier type though!

I don't think you have to. However, if it's in your budget, it would be a nice thing to do.

Hi Whitney! It's completely up to you, and I totally see both sides. Like Coughi said, the more the merrier for his friends might me nice. While at the same time, like AlmostOliviera said, it's definitely not required and if it's not in your budget, you don't have to. Smiley heart
