Serious Foot Pain... And Shoes?

JulyPittsburghBride, on June 5, 2016 at 12:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

Hi, ladies! I suffer from terrible plantar fascitis. I am usually only comfortable in high-quality sneakers with custom orthotics for any length of time. I do wear flip flops and cute sandals in the summer, but after a few hours, I am hurting terribly again. I just realized I can't have my gown hemmed until I have The Shoes. I can't wear hardly any heel unless it's just for pictures, so I need to find something very low, wide, and supportive. Of course, I'd also love if it's beautiful, silver or while, and feminine. Does anyone know of very comfortable, supportive dress shoes/sandals for brides who suffer from constant arch pain? I'm thinking open toes, maybe sling back? I also want to be able to dance on a hardwood floor--ballroom, so I can move without gripping or shipping too much! TIA!

Have you looked at dsw? Was just there yesterday and noticed lots of cute orthopedic shoes. Dr Scholls, even makes heels now. Good luck in your search. I say wear tennis shoes if that's what your comfortable in. Fh just bought air Jordan's for his tux.

I looked in our local one a few weeks ago and didn't see anything like that, but I can look more closely. I didn't even consider they'd carry orthopedic shoes and just tried to find normal ones that may work. Thanks!

I have it too! Extremely bad... It's the most painful thing ever. Wear brooks brand tennis shoes daily. It's helped me a lot. Not sure about the dress shoes though

I have the same issues, but I can't even wear sandals. I've never been a heel girl anyway so I bought Keds by Kate Spade. Try maybe the Born brand? Dillard's has a whole comfort shoe brand too

I take valerian root to ease foot pain so maybe you could take that until you can get the shoes broken in?

I found Vionics flip flops this summer and they are a life saver! Like you, I have extreme pain after just a couple of hours in non supportive shoes. Vionic makes all kinds of shoes, including flats and wedges, that have great arch support! The flip flops have been the best so far, and make sure you read the reviews on the flats, as some have very tight toe boxes, but they also have some very pretty orthotic sandals too. I got mine on Amazon, where they're frequently much cheaper. My flip flops were $40, and that was down from an original $120!

If you REALLY want a heel, look into character shoes, which are used for dancing. They have a slight arch support cushion in them, and take my feet a lot longer to fatigue in them. I like the CapeIo Jr. Footlight, and you can always glitter them up with a little glitter and ModPodge.

I have extreme FHL tendinitis, aka dancer's tendinitis, which is very similar. I second looking into character or ballroom shoes. I have found my shoes, they are flats by Benjamin Adams and I am using "super feet" in them. They are molded inserts that you can put in to help make a shoe more supportive. I love them. I found mine at Nordstrom, but Amazon will probably be a good bet. I am also going back to PT about 6 months before the wedding to try and help alleviate the tendinitis leading up to the wedding and honeymoon.

I also have the same condition as well bunions that were made worse by doing pointe. I'm planning on wearing tan character shoes. They're look vintagey and are pretty supportive. These are the style I'm looking at currently.

Hmm... character shoes? I'm going to look into these! I think, most likely, I'll get some character shoes (ballroom dance, same thing?) for the ceremony and formals and first dance. Maybe for the garter toss, I guess, haha. I'll move into more of a sneaker just after that, though, I'm sure.

Thanks, ladies--I'm going to hunt for some now. I'm so sorry to you all re: the foot pain, though. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

I'm terrified our honeymoon will be ruined because I won't be able to walk tons to sight see. Smiley sad

This might be odd but I found that wearing some kind of barrier between my foot and the shoe (either those little dress/half foot socks or stockings) helped when I was on my feet all day teaching. Days I went barefoot in my shoes were definitely more painful than days I wore the socks.

Eta: I think character shoes have a wider heel than ballroom shoes? I recommended at least going and trying them on in a store and then checking out some online stores for pricing.

Alas, sling back is unlikely to be supportive enough.

Drew Shoes has some choices, and you can search by condition to look for those that work for plantar fasciitis:

But unfortunately, you're unlikely to find shoes as pretty as you want in styles that don't hurt your feet.

Someone mentioned inserts.... custom inserts would make the shoe choice easier. I'm wearing ballroom shoes, and, depending on where you order them, you can specify heel height and type. Danceshoesonline.com is where I got mine, they originally had a2 inch heel which I bumped up to 3 (I don't like how anything lower than 3 looks on my foot, personally). But they had heights from 1 - 4". I personally hate Capezios, they really hurt my feet and take a long, painful time to break in. And unless you pay to have them rubberized, there isn't much shock absorption. They're more expensive, but LaDucas are my favorite character shoe, and they have much prettier options than Capezio. And they're MUCH kinder to your feet. Btw, if you go with any character shoe, most brands have the standard t straps in silver or gold.... much prettier than the kind-of-boring tan that every dancer has 10 beaten-up pairs of. Smiley smile

Oh and I just realized. .. I'm actually wearing black LaDucas in my profile picture, haha. Smiley smile I think they're the Teresas....? Not sure. But you can get them in a lower heel, and inserts make ALL the difference. Smiley smile

Look at crocs. They have a bunch of shoes that dont look like the typical crocs design but are comfy.

I found ballroom dance shoes on Amazon. Crazy inexpensive and definitely comfy. I have PF too and it's horrible. If I could wear my Danskos with my dress I would!

120% also recommend LaDucas! I absolutely love mine and I find them to be more comfortable than Capezio's. I have these: http://www.laducashoes.com/collections/women/products/alexis-2-5-soft-sole

If you want a peep tow, they also have these: http://www.laducashoes.com/collections/women/products/rita-soft-sole

I think I am going to be wearing Tieks flats - I'm not into heels, and I've heard they are even more comfortable than sneakers! Pricey, but you would get tons more use out of them Smiley smile plus they come in TONS of colors!
