September Wedding - Planning Concerns - Any Advice?

Harmony, on April 13, 2020 at 3:39 PM Posted in Planning 1 7

So my wedding is September 26th - I'm not planning on cancelling, hoping this blows over by then!!

However, I'm concerned I won't have enough time to get some essential things! We have most of our vendors figured out, but my biggest concern is the DRESS! I had just starting looking and was about to start making appointments to try on dresses when everything got shut down. As a plus size bride, I already was panicking about cutting it a bit close but now, assuming this is over by mid to end of May, I'll only have THREE months to get a dress!!

Anyone else worried about this? Any suggestions? Does anyone in Arizona know where a plus-size bride can still try on dresses?

Thanks in advance! Smiley smile Smiley heart

You probably won't get much try on in stores, and it'll probably be too soon by the time things open again. That being said, there are options! A lot of brides swear by Azazie and Cocomelody, and both have try at home options. David's Bridal also had plenty of beautiful options and sizes for us curvy girls, and you can return to them for free if you order online. They also have really quick turn around for most dresses - a lot of them are just sitting in the warehouses - if you want to wait for then to open again.

There are also things like Poshmark, stillwhite, preownedweddingdress, lastminutebride.com! You have plenty of options, and you'll find a gorgeous gown. You may not have as many options, but don't get hung up on that. Good luck!

I can understand your concerns, given that your planning isn’t done. That’s an extra stress with everything being closed. We are scheduled for October and had details planned and all vendors booked by January. So with everything going on, I’m glad we fulfilled that goal. I have my dress, FH has his attire, we mailed STDs in January and I received invitation samples in February. I do hope that things can get back to a form of normalcy and we can continue with our wedding in October. Right now we’re just in a holding pattern. But if it opens up, we’re set to go.

I don’t think you’ll be able to do much IN PERSON planning right now. But there’s still a lot you can do online and through email. We’re having a destination wedding and 95% of it has been done remotely. The only vendor we met in person was the hotel/casino coordinator. Our other vendors were all booked after doing research, going to their websites, speaking with them on the phone, asking questions and signing contracts via email. As for dresses, I agree with the above poster that trying preownedweddingdresses.com is a good option. I was initially going to buy a dress on that site but found one online via a bridal salon out of state (I knew I wanted it when I saw it and I never tried it on).
So ultimately, everyone planning a wedding during this period can still do so, because it’s not much different than planning a destination wedding.

Cocomelody has try at home options. Look them up see if you find something you like. I ordered my reception dress from them and its made beautifully.

I have the same date we are wedding twins, I am not thinking of postponing as I'm giving myself till July 1st to make a decision. I have used Azazie to order at home dresses and I did fall in love with 2 styles that look good on my shape(also plus size) It is stressful to think about not having a dress but just stay positive and look forward to celebrating Life, love and happiness on your special day because as we all have witnessed those things are promised to anyone.

Hi Harmony! I totally understand your concerns!! I've seen a few other September brides talking about the same worries in this discussion: September brides - planning?

For dress shopping specifically, I'd call a few local salons to see if any of them are running virtual consultations or at-home try-on programs! This article has some good examples and shopping tips: How to Get the Wedding Dress Shopping Experience From Home During COVID-19.

You can also order wedding dresses from more traditional retailers like Nordstrom (I know Torrid and Modcloth have some plus size bridal options too!)

I know this is unconventional. But I got my dress on jjshouse.com.

I got the dress customized to my measurements and it came out PERFECT! My friends thought I paid a few thousand... when I only paid $200 total.
