September wedding no more?

Shamika, on May 16, 2020 at 3:27 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

My fiance and I planned to get married Sept. 19, 2020. This whole pandemic has has made it hard, as we lost our jobs due to the pandemic and had to use our wedding savings. The only thing we have paid and in our possession in my wedding dress.

We're thinking of doing a court wedding on the original date this year and then just doing a huge celebration on our 1 year anniversary with the dress and everything. Anyone else opt for a court wedding or isn't able able to get married this year? Looking for tips or ideas of what we should do.

Girl, I know how frustrating this is! My wedding was supposed to be next Saturday & we postponed to Aug 23 this year. I also have my dress & have booked several vendors. My venue has been paid in full. I’m struggling on what to do. With all that’s going on, we’ve discussed going to the JP or even having a small backyard wedding. If we got married at the courthouse, we probably wouldn’t tell anyone. I’m sorry you’re going through this! I wish you all the best!

    Hi, Niki!

    Thanks for sharing! Smiley smile

Has your venue told you anything about a refund or have your talked to your insurance about getting your money back if you decided to not go through with the venue and instead did a backyard wedding or went to the JP?

We have also already paid in full for our all-inclusive venue and they have strict policies of no refunds. The insurance company is also really unclear about how they will go about claims.

We haven’t asked our venue about a refund yet and we didn’t get insurance. Is it too late? Lol.

I am considering same for backup plan but will do small ceremony either on mountain or in my back yard. I still hope things will go as planned but trying to focus on what is important to me.

Cheers girl! I hope things work out for you.

Hi our wedding is schedule for September 6,2020. We are going to do a backyard wedding this year with local family members as most of my family is in Ecuador and things there are bad. Our venue has a non refundable fee of $1,000 and we so far have decided to use the venue next year to celebrate our 1 year anniversary instead. I think doing something small this year will give you peace and you won’t be too stress.

I work for insurance and yes companies currently aren’t offering cancellation insurance for weddings due to the demand of claims that are happening because of the pandemic

Do you know what happens if our circumstance warrants a cancellation? will we ever see that money?

I'm so sorry to hear about what you've both been going through. Smiley heart

I love your idea to get married on your original wedding date and plan a big party for later! There are a lot of couples doing something similar for various reasons! Here are a few discussions where other brides have shared their plans:

Hi I’m also interested, Shamika, if you’ve reached out to vendors. My fiancé and I are in a similar situation with work hours cut - plus the over all uncertainty with high risk families - we have decided the financial and health aspect aren’t worth the risk and unknown. However even with the Force Majeure clause I was told “that’s for closer to the dates and this is too far in the future” so they are refuse to provide me with a refund.

So I’m curious if you’re ran into the same trouble. I don’t know if this is able to or worth filing a claim with small courts claim.
