Seniors wedding

Cindi, on December 22, 2013 at 9:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

We are a senior couple, ages 68 and 70. I'd like to find poetry or special readings that would apply to us at our time of life, rather than just beginning. We've both been married/divorced/widowed before. Any ideas?

    Cindi, I've actually married couples older than you! My oldest groom was 90 and his "child bride" was only 78! And many other couples in their 60s and 70s.

    Emily Matthews wrote a poem about love coming along when you least expect it to.

    If you can't find it on the internet, e-mail me and I'll e-mail to you.

    You rock! I've married couples loads more senior; it's just a number. Try this one;

    For a new Beginning

    In the out of the way places of your heart,

    Where your thoughts never think to wander,

    This beginning has been quietly forming,

    Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

    The delight when your courage kindled,

    And out you stepped onto new ground

    eyes young again with energy and dream,

    A path of plentitude opening before you.

    Though your destination is not yet clear

    You can trust the promise of this opening;

    Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning

    that is at one with your life's desire.

    Awaken your spirit to adventure;

    Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;

    Soon you will be home in a new rhythm

    For your souls sense the world that awaits you. John O’ Donohue

    Thank you Nancy. I will look it up. Celia, this one may just be the perfect one. I've used the term "new beginning" for years. Every few years it just seems to fit my life, whether it's a first grandchild, new job, or new love. Thank you both!

    John O'donohue is one of my "go to" authors. His poetry is really marvelous. This is from a book called, "To Bless the Space Between Us".

    Check out Shakespeare's sonnets. There's quite a few in the middle and end that are wonderful love sonnets.
