Seeking Opinions 2021 wedding date

FromThisDayFOREward, on April 10, 2020 at 11:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

We are planning a destination wedding which will require flights for everyone (3 hours non stop). The plan is April 2021 but we have not paid the $500 deposit yet to save our date. What is your opinion on that date for travel given the current COVID impacts on health and travel? Should we push out to mid-end May? It's a year away but this is a global pandemic which will require a lot of recovery. I'm wondering if travel will be limited, or an uncomfortable thought by then.

Thanks!

I am in no way a scientist, but I strongly believe your day will be fine. I have to admit while I thought this would blow over sooner rather than later, I truly cannot fathom this lasting over a year. If possible, look into the venues cancellation policy before you move forward with ANY date. It's better to not receive money back but have the abilities to reschedule, rather than not be accommodated at all!

Hi there! I’m a bride who had to postpone my destination wedding this year to January 2021.
From my experience this year, a timespan of a month and a half wouldn’t make that big of a difference. The pandemic impacted travel in mid-March and is impacting weddings at my venue up until May/June, so if you’re thinking about a new date I would choose a date that’s in a completely different season like August/September or even the end of 2021 if you can wait that long. For every single bride in **** there’s an innate risk in planning your wedding until there’s a vaccine. So our only option is to choose a date and hope for the best. I’m sorry if this isn’t the most optimistic response. I wish I had a magic wand to wipe this all away for everyone.

Hi, thanks for your response! I wish I had that magic wand too. So sorry to hear about your wedding but I hope everything can go well in Jan 2021. So in your opinion our date of next April (2021) could be reasonable or you think later in 2021?

Personally, I’m only going with January 2021, because my wedding is literally planned, everyone already booked their travel, and I can’t imagine sitting around for almost another year waiting to get married, even a vow renewal. So I’m willing to take the risk.

But if I was in your position and didn’t sign a contract yet, I would reserve a date at the end of 2021 for a destination wedding. Outside of coronavirus, I’ve spent so much time thinking about all of my guests safety and making sure that they’re informed about traveling to my destination, reserving their travel, etc, and worrying about people traveling + a pandemic is an even harder combo. So I think at the end of 2021 we can pretty much guarantee that there will be vaccine, people will feel more comfortable traveling, and there will be less worry. The only con is if you’re in a rush to get married.
Message me if you have any other questions about planning a destination wedding. It’s a beast of its own.

I think your date should be okay, I recently booked Aug 2021 date which was our original plan at our dream venue. I spoke with them and they’ve been accommodating at postponing their 2020 brides which made me feel confident god forbid we had to move our date next year (but like everyone said I cannot fathom the current state of things extending for over a year). Our venue coordinator also mentioned that a lot of 2020 brides are securing popular dates in 2021 now that usually would have been available at this time. So I think If you can get an idea from your venue how they’re accommodating current brides who’s dates are affected by COVID as well as their cancellation / refund policy you should have more peace of mind and be able to secure the date you want.
