Secondhand wedding decor??

Kassie, on March 31, 2015 at 12:59 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

Where have you all found some of your second hand stuff for your wedding? I've been walking around local flea markets, and also looking on the WW Bride 2 Bride facebook page. Are there any other sites or groups you all suggest for me to join? I'm trying to get as much as I can for cheap because I don't want to burden those helping me pay, so the cheaper I find things in good condition, the better. Smiley smile Thank you!

ETA: I also use Amazon and Ebay when I have something specific in mind

Check out this article for lots of ideas. It's geared toward where to sell stuff, but of course, you'd buy stuff the same places:

I found my candy buffet jars on Craigslist for $200 for 10 huge jars and some extra stuff. I checked that out regularly.

@Susan- Craigslist scares me, lol just because of all the negative stuff I see that has happened from it, but I guess if I take someone with me, then I'd be okay, I'll check them out Smiley smile

I've gotten a LOT off of Craigslist. Votives, vases, decorative branches, candles, frames.....all just other brides excited to see their stuff get reused! Definitely not scary!

@Karen- I guess I just put too much stock in the stories about the crazies that lurk on those types of sites. lol I will definitely check my local craigslist.

@Lindsay- I am part of that group Smiley smile I just haven't found anything I wanted off of there (minus some aqua beads) so I was wanting other places to look as well so I don't rely on it so much Smiley smile

@Kassie - I got my MOB dress that Im wearing as my wedding dress from my local craigslist list for $20, brand new with tags. You know they "good" areas near you, stick to those. I actually went to the ladys house and tried on the dress in her bathroom. She gave me a pair of brand new earrings that match the dress, as a bonus too. Also there is a classified section on weddingbee dot come with a ton of stuff. Google wedding consignment shops in your area too. We have an awesome one in Minnesota that has every thing a person would need for a wedding. I.e. i bought chair sashes that Im using for table runners (my tables are kinda narrow) for .75 a piece, and picked up my guestbook signing platter there too, for 5 bucks. I also just ordered a pair of shoes for the wedding from ebay for 20 dollars. They should come this week and Im praying they fit my wide feet and theyre not too high. We shall see.

Kassie- I've heard people recommend meeting Craigslist sellers in front of the police station. I thought that was a great idea!

I'd also look for local Facebook swap pages. Here we've got Iowa Wedding Items Buy Sell Trade, Iowa Wedding Swap, etc, there's like 5 of them lol.

I joined a local fb group that recycles wedding everything! Unfortunately it is all lace, burlap, and mason jars though! Not my taste/style at all. Search facebook for (your city) wedding groups. Also I was very surprised at how much I have found at consignment shops! I was always dead set against consignment shops (they smell like moth balls), but I got my dress, my veil, and my headpiece there. They also had some decor items. The one I went to sells new stuff too! Local thrift stores. I bought my bustier and my crinoline off of Amazon. My jewelry from a local boutique. The dollar Tree has $1 vases. We have a place called "re-store" here that all the proceeds go to benefit the local habitat for humanity. They sell a ton of things that they get from tearing down houses (to build new ones) and donations. Check your local newspaper also. Classified section!

Craig's List was my THING last year. Sadly, there's nothing good in my area recently, but it is worth a shot.

I've met people at police stations, malls, and at their homes. I made sure I let someone know where I was going and what I was doing.

@Val: I seen those at Ross when I was visiting NC for $40 for 2 (a double stand with 2 jars). People on my local wedding recycling fb group are trying to sell them for $40/ each used!

Garage sales, Craigslist, Bridal groups on Facebook. I know a lot of people that were able to resell the stuff they bought that were resale.

Anytime I've dealt with Craigslist it's been in a public place.

I got most of my decorations from my second cousin and my sister-in-law. I also got some things off ebay, and flowers from my bouquet at a craft store when they were half off.
