Second Wedding Photo Shoot - thoughts?

ChiBride1016, on September 6, 2017 at 1:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

Hubby and I are coming up on our 1 year anniversary and I still can't help but feel bummed about our wedding pictures. It rained the entire day of our wedding and we don't have a single shot outside and I think we lost out on having some of those artistic shots that I really wanted. The photos we ended up with turned out fine. Our photographer actually did a really good job coming up with alternatives under the circumstances but I still can't help but feel disappointed over the ones we couldn't take. So I was contemplating reaching out to photographers to see if they would do a short "wedding" shoot of my husband and I dressed up in our wedding attire, even a year (or two) after the fact. Is this a dumb idea? Has anyone else ever done this? I can't decide if I'm making too big a deal out of not having those pictures so I'm wondering if anyone else has ever been in a similar boat?

Not a "dumb idea." I understand you being bummed about not having the wedding pics you wanted. Maybe call it an "anniversary shoot"

I would just do an anniversary shoot. You don't necessarily need to be in your wedding attire, that's kind of strange to me but if that's what you really want then go for it.

I say do what you want! I think personally I would do more of an "engagement shoot" style, like dolled up, cute clothes, hair done, but not in my wedding dress. But again, do what you really want

Yea...I don't know what it is about putting on your wedding dress a year later for a picture that sounds weird. But I still love the idea of an "anniversary shoot"

I would do more of an engagement shoot than wear your wedding attire but whatever makes you happy!!

Friends of ours dress up in their wedding attire and do a photoshoot on their anniversary every year. I think it's very cute and romantic.

I've seen some photographers actually advertise that they will do this if you have bad weather on your wedding day. You can try reaching out to the photographer you used for your wedding and ask if they would do this?

My videographer is also a photographer and just did an anniversary session for a couple in their wedding attire on their 1 year. It was gorgeous and they ended in a trash the dress almost type shoot with her in the ocean. It was actually gorgeous!

Well the only reason I'm thinking of wearing wedding attire is because we have nothing of us wearing them right now (outdoors, that is). Plus, it would be my one other chance to wear the dress I probably paid too much for again Smiley smile I haven't even made out album yet. That's how bummed I am about it. I figured if we did this shoot I could eventually include it in our album.

Sara&L - I love the idea of including the dogs! They have pictures with me on our wedding day but not both of us.

Curious though - is an anniversary shoot a thing now? I've actually never heard of this.

I vote do it! It will make you happy and you aren't going to inconvenience anybody else. Plus, another chance to feel like a princess in a beautiful gown?? That will always get my vote!

Go for it!! When my cousin got married, their photographer got sick, sent an art student to shoot the wedding, and they unfortunately only got a handful of photos that turned out okay. So they scheduled a second shoot with a different photographer later on and got dressed up in their wedding attire again. I think it provided a sense of closure for them to help combat feeling disappointed with their original photos and have some better memories attached to the images!

Do an anniversary shoot. Get the pictures you always wanted! Personally, I'd call my original photographer for this. Maybe she'd even offer you a discount!

This is not a dumb idea, it's a great idea, especially if it's been bothering you! So many photographers would love to help you capture some moments all dressed up that you didn't get the first time around! Smiley smile
