Second thoughts about wedding dress

Caitlin, on October 17, 2019 at 9:26 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
Has anyone else bought a wedding dress and is having second thoughts about it? I had my dress appointment at David’s Bridal and I went in there telling myself not to spend over $1,000. One dress that I tried on and loved cost $1,200 but since I thought that was too expensive I ended up buying a $600 dress on clearance that is still beautiful, but not exactly what I originally wanted. I didn’t feel as happy in it as I did with the. $1,200 dress. I am probably overreacting, but I would like advice. Attached pictures are of the dress that I bought. Advice or similar experiences?

That dress looks beautiful on you! Dress regret is very real I'm afraid, I've had it pretty bad since the day after I bought my dress. Is it worth it to you to have that dress that you loved? Could you maybe cut that $200 out of a couple other budgets for the wedding? You should wear something that you love! I'm in the process of either exchanging my dress from DB's for another, or trying to get a store credit to use for my bridesmaid dresses and get another dress somewhere else. Best of luck to you! Smiley heart

Thanks! Sounds like we are in the same boat. I wonder if I could return my dress? Maybe not because it is clearance. I hope you find a dress you love as well!

David's Bridal is pretty up front about their "no returns" policy for in-store purchases. Smiley sad When I called the store, they said they could do an exchange for store credit as long as the dress was still in new condition with the tags. I think if you told them you had your eye on another (and more expensive) dress, they'd be more than willing to work with you on that. But it does vary from store to store!

I think it looks beautiful on you but if you aren’t happy call DB and explain. They might let you exchange it.

Okay thanks for letting me know! An exchange would work perfectly actually. Thanks!

I'd say if you really feel like you could do better. Do better. I bought my first dress because I loved the look but when I put it on from the first time I knew it wasn't for me although freaking gorgeous. I returned it and went full on what something that's more unique to me and I can't wait to be seen in it. It's definitely different but looks great on me too. One day one chance get what ya heart desires lil Lady. Best of luck.

I did the same thing. Bought a budget dress at David's and instantly had buyers regret. They let me exchange it towards the dress I really wanted. You only get one wedding day....wear what makes u feel beautiful!

I have also experienced dress regret. I had my mind set on a certain style and a set budget amount. I loved my dress when I found it and LOVED the price (also a clearance dress), but as I began alterations, I couldn't see myself in the dress anymore. I had lost about 15 pounds, so the dress I bought that covered my insecurities started making me feel "too modest". I went back to David's Bridal (alone) and told them my thoughts. Despite being a clearance dress, they were all for helping me exchange it for another dress, but I had already started alterations so in the end I wasn't able too (which I already new). Yes, I was out about $500 in the end, and the new dress I found was WAY over the budget, but I absolutely LOVE it! My FH loves how much I love it and how confident I am with it (he hasn't seen it, but I get giddy when I have a fitting). If it's in your budget, then I think you should talk to David's Bridal and explore your options!

Same here I bought me dress already and now I am having regrets as well. I might just have a few things altered but I also got a dress based on my budget. The dress I fell in love with was over 1k and I dont want to spend that much on a dress for one day rather put extra in the reception. Maybe you can alter it some to make it more your style or similar to the dress you tried before , get quotes though because altercations can get pretty pricey.

The dress you bought is very pretty, and that's a great price! But, I would always advise getting the one dress that makes you look and feel great!! Any other occasion I'd say to go with the cheaper dress, but not for your wedding. I speak from experience on this topic too.. I talked myself out of my dream dress because it was slightly over the budget I had in mind. I settled for something else I didn't love as much and boy do I wish I followed my gut and got what I loved! It's your wedding day, you want to feel your best!! I'd say if the few hundred is that much of a deal breaker for you, find other areas to cut costs so you can afford it because it's definitely worth it!!

Share pictures of your dream dress too! I'd love to see it Smiley smile

I'm having similar dress regret... I went with something for different reasons, but I feel kind of bummed out because for the price, I should have fallen head over heels for it... But I kind of just went with it because literally every other person there loved it more than I did. My MoH's mother even started crying, and another BRIDE who was also trying on dresses, stopped midway to tell me I looked amazing. Is that crazy or what? But I feel just eh about the dress.

I have no advise for you, as my dress was nonrefundable, so I am going to be wearing it. Sorry sister, but I hope this works out for you! Smiley heart You should really chase that dream dress!!!

My story exactly, except i went to a different bridal shop. I also didn't want to spend 1000 dollars for a dress. The consultant (knowing my budget) put me in a 1600 dress. Well i ended up loving it. I even cried. Well i had to say no. I went to davids bridal to purchase a real nice, cheap dress. I didn't love any of them. At the time we were planning to get married in 9 months. I purchased a dress for almost 700 dollars. i was in and out of love with it. I went on a used dress site one night and found the original dress i fell in love with for 700 dollars less. I thought about it and just knew it was my day. I ended up buying it. I have no regrets. Sadly my david bridal doesn't take returns or store credit. So i technically have 2 dresses lol. I'm selling the first dress i bought online. But i am happy i have my dream dress.

Go back and try on the one you wanted and if you feel you love it, get it! Find a way to get the extra somewhere (working a little more or cutting a less important area) Happy wedding!

I was second guessing my dress, even made a post here about it. I ended up loving mine the day of and keep looking at pictures like every day of it. The dress you have is beautiful. Once you have the hair and make up and accessories on, it changes so much.

I'm having the same issue, I've been undecided from the very beginning. I went for my first fitting today, and I had to hold back tears because it doesn't "wow" me whatsoever. If I knew for sure that there was another dress that would wow me, now, and I could get it in time for my wedding day, I would spend the money and buy the dream dress (mine's Dec 21st this year, very little hope for me!)

As a bonus, ask if you can swap and pay towards. For me money is not the issue, time is.

I went in with a budget too and I definitely went over it! I think if there's going to be anything you splurge on that day it should be your dress!! I think you should wear whatever makes you happiest and whichever one gives you that "bridal" feeling!! That feeling is what did it for me!
