Just Said Yes November 2025

Second marriage but not second wedding

Angela, on November 7, 2023 at 11:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
A little background for me. I was married 12 years ago. My husband and I eloped, just the two of us. We told no one. We had a wedding planned for 10 months later to celebrate with friends and family. We got married early because I needed health insurance to get my wisdom teeth pulled. I made him promise to not tell anyone out of fear that no one would come to our wedding. He was killed three months later in a motorcycle accident. We never got to have our wedding. I never had my dad walk me down the isle, no bridal shower, no bachelorette party, nothing. Here I am 12 years later, I have said yes to a man who makes my heart happy. My question is what is the appropriate etiquette for having a big “second” wedding? I’m a grownup now, I own my house. We live together. Is it ok to do ALL THE THINGS that I missed out on before?

First I'm sorry for what happened with your first husband. But I am so glad for you that you met someone who makes you happy. There's absolutely no reason you shouldn't be able to have your dream wedding.

HECK YEAH! I got married for the 3rd time and had all the wedding fuss. We were so thrilled to celebrate finding each other late in life. If there was anyone who "disapproved ", they wouldn't have been in our friends circle anyway. Go for it - happy planning!

Do all the wedding stuff you would like to do. I’m not aware of any “etiquette” when it comes to a second marriage.

    HELL-TO-THE-FRIKKIN-YEA!

Big wedding and some. Splurge as big and as extravagant as you wish. Have swans fly instead of doves if you want. It's all about your wants, whether its the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th!!!!
