I initially had a vision of wearing a combination of a sleek modern slip dress along with a sheer silk organza wrap top for my ceremony (pictured in first photo collage). The brand is De La Rosa, but since they’re based in Hawaii and don’t have any other stockists close to me, I couldn’t try on. I LOVE this look, but wasn’t sure how to figure out if it would work for my body type. The blouse I feel comfortable ordering online without trying on, but the dress felt like too much of a gamble, so I started looking for similar slip style dresses locally that I could try.
I also went to my first dress appointment where I tried on some other, more structured dresses to see if I would like the look of them more and feel comfortable.
I tried on a few dresses (pics attached) some of which I liked, but didn’t feel like I was ready to pick one.
Then I found a slip dress that was pretty similar to the one I loved, so I went to try it on at my local grace loves lace showroom. The appointment was SO much more helpful than my previous one, and I love that they take way more measurements and actually make the dress to your measurements so it’s a much closer fit than standard made to size dresses. I really liked the dress, and my mom liked it and thought I should buy it. I wish that I had waited and taken some time to think about it, because I’m so worried I may not have made the right choice now. I know the dress will look good, and would plan to wear it with the organza wrap, but I’m worried it looks too much like a nightgown, and that with my small chest and more pear shaped hips it’s not as flattering as the more fitted structured styles I had tried on.
I can still cancel the order for a fee. Does anyone have any honest advise to offer? The slip dress I tried was a bit too big in the top; so would be a bit more fitted there than in the photos, and less long on my actual dress. It also wouldn’t have the lace detail.
