Second guessing wedding dress choice

Riley, on June 26, 2022 at 2:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
Has anyone ever bought a dress and then looked at pictures the next day and realized you might have made a mistake? Help! Second guessing….I already put down some money on the dress.

You are not alone. There has been many forums with future brides saying the same thing. What is it about the dress that you no longer like?

One of the best things a bridal consultant ever told me while shopping was NEVER make decisions about dresses with pictures you took with your phone at the appointment. And she was right, every picture I have does not do any of the dresses justice. There were a few dresses that I tried on multiple times and I always felt better in the dresses than they looked on my phone. Try to remember how you felt in the dress instead! I hope this helps!

Yep and that’s how come I ended up with two sitting here in my closet waiting to be sold.

I love this, and it’s so true! The pictures on my phone never did my dress justice. Go back into the bridal salon ASAP and try your dress on again to see if it gives you all the feels again

When you had the dress on, did you not want to take it off at all? If so, then that’s the right choice. If you chose the dress because other people loved it and you were hesitant, then it’s worth it to keep looking. However check with the store to see what their refund policy is. Some do not refund. Once you find the dress that you don’t want to take off for anything, stop looking. It’s when people keep looking at other styles that the doubt starts to creep in.

Hey bride! You're not alone. Smiley smile

I live here in SoCal and purchased my wedding dress in NY.. I honestly tossed and turned at night when I got home thinking I was totally crazy for buying the dress without trying on several others, and not being in close proximity to the dress to go in and reassure myself it's the one. It has all worked out though!! I received it two months ago and all of my worries went away when I tried it on again. I hope and pray you feel the same way! Just know, everything is going to work out in the end. Sending you the best wishes!

This app is filled with brides second guessing their choice of dress. I started to also, but after the alterations, It turned out perfect.

Second guessing wedding dress choice 1
Here's my dress. The first picture is the day I picked it out and put a deposit at it. I hungrily scoured this photo and convinced myself *hours* afterwards that it was plain and I've made an awful mistake.

The second picture is the day my dress came in. It fit better in the waist and bust and helped ease my fears, but I was still a little concerned about the skirt because I couldn't visualize how it would sit.
The last picture is my wedding day after my alterations. I couldn't imagine myself in any other dress. It was the dress I fell in love with in the boutique, how I saw myself wearing it in the mirror that first day when I said yes to it.
Case in point, pictures of you in the dress in the store aren't going to be great. The lighting is weird, it's not your size, it's tugged and clipped and stretched on your body to give you an idea, and of *course* you're second guessing that dress from those pictures. Wait until the dress comes in. If you really hate it, keep looking, but until then, put away the pictures from that day and don't look at pictures of other dresses. You'll only confuse yourself

I 100% did that! I thought I would fall in love with it once it arrived and I tried on my own… this did not happen. I ended up getting a new one because I just couldn’t imagine getting married in the one I had!

I’m actually doing that right now. I got a fitted dress because it was cheaper and after receiving it realized I didn’t love it. But I found that there are things you can do. I’m buying an detachable over skirt for cheap to make it bigger princess style. I found you can buy halter top or illusion sleeves belts and other detachable accessories to make it a whole new dress. Also trying it on with the veil really changes the whole look for the better.

I insisted on no pictures for this reason (and so the dress was kept a secret lol). When I tried on my dress in the fitting room, I was on the fence, but when I saw it in natural light and with a veil, I was SOLD. Then with COVID, postponing, etc. it sat in the shop for over 2 years, and I really started doubting myself.

The sample isn't going to fit right, even with the clips, and when it arrives it still won't be altered to fit like it should yet. What helped me a BUNCH was looking at pictures of real brides in my dress. They were all dolled up, had accessories and veils, and their dresses were altered to fit properly. I thought they all looked perfect, and that's what I've been carrying with me while I wait for alterations to be finalized (which won't be until right before the wedding, so no help to my anxiety there lol). Alteration experts are wizards and can make dresses look absolutely perfect, and if there's something you think needs to be changed or added on, they can usually work their magic and make it happen.

I bought 2 dresses. The one I found was the one I wanted "BADLY" so I purchased it. I have to have alterations done to it. I had the dress delivered to my home address. It showed up at my house and I tried it on (the best way I could because the train is so enormous and I can't zip it up myself. The second dress I purchased was to wear to the reception and I absolutely hate it. I could not get my money back and I made the mistake of going to David's Bridal (which of course has a limited selection of dresses). SO here I sit with one dress that is ABSOLUTELY perfect and another I hate. The reason for the second dress was because I thought the first dress was going to be entirely to heavy to carry around since my train is wide and long. The dress itself is lighter than I thought it would be.

Hi, I was having the same issue briefly. But I remembered how good I felt in the dress. There are similarities in the dresses. I’m in love with the sweetheart neckline😊
