Save the dates/rsvps

Abby, on April 1, 2020 at 11:36 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7
So I am having so much anxiety! At the beginning of March we were going to buy our save the dates/ RSVPs and send them out but then all this madness happened and so we haven’t done it yet! Our wedding is in August so I feel like I’m behind the ball! Now I’m hearing people say this might last until July/August I work with Doctors. So do I order them? Do I even send them out. I just reached out to my venue coordinator and she said she is not issuing refunds only a postponement date. She said some couples are getting married at the venue and holding a small ceremony then having there receptions on different dates when the gathering ordinances are lifted. Which at that point you’d need to get ahold of everyone again to let them know..

I wouldn’t bother with save the dates 5 months before your wedding. I would order invitations and send them 8-10 weeks before the wedding, then decide in late June or early July if you need to postpone.

You Should Send Them Out Now And Still Continue To Plan As Normal, But
Be Mentally Prepared For A Smaller Wedding/Postponement If It Does
Happen. I Think Youll Be Fine.

I think you'll be fine, but if you're worried you can always hold off on sending them and just send invitations a little bit earlier.

I think ordering Save the Dates this close to the wedding is a waste of money. I agree with Caytlyn, get your invitations ready to go out 8 weeks before. By then, we may have a better idea of when the madness will end. For us, things started looking really bad right about the time our invitations should have gone out, so we waited to send them. A couple of days later, we made the decision to postpone. I'm glad we did, because I was able to move everything, and now it's done, and the stress of that is over. I will have to order new invitations, but we went far enough out that we shouldn't have to worry about this again.

    Hi Abby,

I'm sorry you're having to think about postponing your August wedding on top of planning your big day. eyFYBiGtFgC4Ag-LxBWWMP5UvJmt7cCKk6ZuRGas

I agree with the Caytlyn's recommendation above. Unless it means a lot to you, I'm not sure it is necessary to send out Save the Dates this close to your wedding if you are considering rescheduling.

While this is definitely an uncertain time, it seems like plenty of August couples are waiting to make postponement decisions. Of course, everyone's situation is different, so it never hurts to be proactive about plan B!

I think you should continue to plan as normal. I added a small sticker to the bottom of our Save the Dates with it saying "for wedding updates and information please see" and the link our wedding website. Because of all the uncertainty I was able to notate information that is related to our current state of affairs and back up plans.

To save a little money, we opted for a very simple and inexpensive save-the-date postcard. It ended up costed with postage about .60 per card. That option was well worth it for us.

I went with a local printer for my wedding invitations, and I had several honest email exchanges about the situation. I asked how her supply chain had been affected (mid-March) and she said that her turnaround would still be 3-4 weeks between ordering the invites and them arriving. She also said I didn't need to put down a deposit yet. That gave me a little more breathing room of "wait and see". Well, April 2 the printer was ordered to close as a "non-essential service" so it was then or never for getting out invitations. We went ahead and committed to ordering them on the hope that the wedding-relevant parts of the US will be open again by my wedding.

So, I recommend keeping in close contact with your printer. The supply chain is in chaos right now, so save-the-dates might take longer to get out than originally expected. If your printer has shut down, you might have to find a new one. Your stationary might be unavailable. Ask the printer how long you can wait before ordering and how quickly they can get the save-the-dates printed. Fortunately, people don't have much going on right now, so your wedding date is hopefully still open on their calendars. Good luck!
