We found it necessary since we are doing a destination wedding. We included accomodations with it so people could plan ahead.

We did Save the Dates because we have invited large number of guests from out of town and we wanted to give them enough time to make proper arrangements like getting off from work and starting the process of looking for hotels.

I think it depends. Like if your having a destination wedding or if you have a lot of out of town guests, it's nice to give people the extra heads up so they plan and save money if need be. I did send out save the dates.

They probably aren't necessary but we will be sending them out. I had fun designing them and we do have some out of town guests that I feel may need the extra heads up so that they can plan accordingly.

As mentioned already, we sent them a year before our wedding as we have family and friends traveling from far distances and we wanted them to be able to plan with time - official invites are going out 3mos before the wedding.

Not necessary. But I chose to send them out for me. We had changed our date a few times so I wanted to make sure everyone was aware.

Not necessary but I am sending them out just for those that need to have events scheduled in advance that genuinely would like to attend.

We are just doing handmade simple postcards. My aunt offered to make them for us and postage is only $.35. I think they could be a waste for some people, but it’s necessary for some of our guests.

Sent them because we have people from out of the country flying in. This extra step hasn't been around forever though; it's just something people have been doing for the past decade or two. Honestly, why can't people just say 'Yes' three or four months prior and mark it on their calendar? lol.

I think it depends on the wedding! For us they were necessary because of most of our guests being from OOT and across the country, but if most are local then I don't think they're needed.

We are sending save the dates, only because half our guest count will have to travel. If everyone was local, we might opt out of them.

We are sending out save the dates bc we are getting married on Halloween morning (brunch reception!) and figured that ppl may need time to make arrangements to attend. If you're doing a destination wedding or having the wedding on a date that gets busy or a lot of your guests will need to make travel arrangements, then I think it is a good idea to send out save the dates. If you're having a small affair & pretty much everyone is local, then maybe not. Just send out your invitations in plenty of time.

I did save the dates because I had guests from all different countries coming so they needed to know the wedding was for sure happening. Buuuut I didn't want to spend money on them so I sent out free electronic ones! There's always a way to save the bucks!

Not necessity, but I did them and like getting that advance notice! I also think it is nice to give guests that extra heads up of "you're invited".

We had been invited just this week to a friend's wedding on the 29th of February. Since we received no save the date or had any idea we were going to be invited, my MOH scheduled my bridal shower for that same day a few months ago (so she could reserve the space for it). If we would have had that advance notice, I would have scheduled my shower for another day! (although my theory is that we were "B-listers" for that wedding anyway.)

We're sending save the dates – most of our guests are out of town, and we're getting married on a very popular date! We've actually had people reach out to us and ask for our wedding date. We're keeping the wedding relatively small (around 90 guests, which worked out to 50 save the dates), so the price was reasonable.

We were gonna have save the dates because of traveling guests and our list being over 100+ people. Recently though, our plans have changed drastically and now we will most likely be at 30 (immediate family and close friends), we don't see it necessary anymore.

We sent save the dates, to family that was out of town, so they had time to save money if they wanted to come. Our wedding is right after school ends, and around prime vacation time, so we wanted to make sure that everyone had proper notice.
