Save the dates for weekday wedding

Jen, on October 18, 2019 at 3:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
So I was talking with a coworker and I said I was thinking of sending my save the date magnet with my Christmas cards, since we’re having a Thursday wedding, on October 15,2020. I wanted to give our family and close friends ample amount of time to figure things out, and I thought just sending them with the Christmas cards 1) gives a good amount of time, 2) announces our engagement to those who might not be in the loop and 3) save us on postage. (I know, I’m cheap at times).
Anywho, my coworker said to wait until Mid-January to send them out, so they don’t get mixed up with all of the holiday mail, and get thrown out or forgotten about.
now I am leaning on waiting, but just wanted some thoughts.
(ps our wedding is under 60 people, with about 80% being family)

I've seen a lot of people say to avoid sending them out around Christmas, so maybe I'm just strange, but I don't throw away random mail around the holidays lol. We've received a STD as a Christmas card before and we thought it was really clever.

I was looking at some STD/holiday combo cards. Which were very cute...that’s why I thought of sending out the magnet with our personalized holiday card, which will have a photo from when he proposed

I got a STD that was the Christmas card last year for an October wedding. I thought that was great. I dont' understand why someone wouldn't look at it just because it's around the holidays.

We sent ours the beginning of December. I was concerned about sending them during that time too, but my husband was making the save the dates and he didn't get them done in time to send them out in November like I wanted so they went out the first week of December. Everyone received theirs without a problem. I would go ahead and send them with your Christmas card.

I might be weird but we hang up all our Christmas cards we receive from whenever we start getting them until the new year. If it was a STD and not a magnet, I would still just move it to the fridge when I took the other cards down. I say go for it as a Christmas card!

I think the Christmas card is a great idea! That'd be a cute way to announce your date

Given that your wedding guests are mostly family, I would start spreading the word about the date. Wait and do the save the dates later.
We’re having a Monday wedding and our engagement was much shorter. We told Family as soon as the date was secure with the venue and then we sent out the save the dates around the timeline that was considered proper.

December is a little early to send STDs for an October wedding. Plus, people are likely to be caught up in holiday shenanigans and lose it or forget about it and pack it away with the other cards. I'm sending our STDs out in March for our October wedding and the invites will go out in July with RSVP deadlines in September.

I am getting married 9.24.2020 on a Thursday. I am sending mines out like the 3rd week in January for this very reason. People will be on vacation throwing out mail. its just not a good time to send a Save the Date.

Since it's a save the date, and not an invite, I think that's totally fine to send them together!
