Save the dates! Add the venue?

Felicia, on September 21, 2019 at 12:37 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13
So we locked in our date and venue and are about to send save the dates. Should I add my venue to the save the date? Since majority of my guests are coming to Los Angeles from the east coast I would assume they want to find a place to stay way before formal invitations go out. Putting “Los Angeles, ca” might have me running into a lot of questions from quests on where to stay. Los Angeles can mean an hour driving difference at times. Lol. Has anyone done this??

I wouldn't. I think the save the date is to just inform your guests of just the date. All the other details you can provide later once you've figured it out. For example, if you choose to create a website, you can refer guests to it for details such as a hotel block, etc.

If most guests are traveling I would have a wedding website on the save the date and the website should have the venue and hotel block information.

Excuse my ignorance, I'm in no way familiar with LA. Is there an area that you can specify as opposed to mentioning the venue? For example, I live near Cincinnati and there are tons of smaller townships within the city. If someone in my area wanted to specify, they could put Oakley Cincinnati, Ohio instead of putting the venue name. You could also just mention it on your wedding website and put the website on the save the date.

No ignorance taken! The issue is that the venue is “West Hollywood, Beverly Hills adjacent” so it might be confusing for out of town guests. I think I’ll just have to create a wedding website to explain!

I would honestly out the venue. It isn't like it's a big secret or anything.

That's what I was going to suggest as well. Just direct them to the website!

How soon are you sending them out? 85% of my guests will be flying into town so I think I should send mine sooner rather than the adviser time (10 months before)

Our date is 10.16.20 so I think I’m going to send them October of this year (12 months in advance) solely because Los Angeles is as far as you can get and I want to make sure people have ample time to plan their trip. Also, people start sending out holiday cards etc around thanksgiving so I want to do mine before that so we get ample fridge space. LOL!

If people won't understand even with adding the LA neighborhood to the card, put the venue address on there with "formal invitation to follow" (so people don't think your STD is the actual invite).

I agree with everyone. I think adding your website to the STD is sufficient.

I would out the venue/area. Especially for an LA area wedding.

About 1/3 of daughter & SIL's guests had to travel by air for their wedding. I agree with suggestions to have a wedding website and put it on the STD along with the city location. Personally, I think LA is enough for the actual STD. We're in Orange County, so on the website, daughter had a travel section. In that she included information about the three potential airports (LAX, John Wayne, and San Diego), with average travel time between each airport and the wedding location. She also had an accommodations section and a "things to do in So Cal" section. The exact address of the venue was on the first page of the website, as well. There is so much different information that especially out-of-town guests might need, that I think it's a lot easier to just put the general wedding location and the website on the STD. (It will also help push people to visit the website for info they need.)
