Save-the-date or invitations?

Charon , on January 6, 2018 at 1:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
Hi my brides to be!
So I am confused and I really want to save what I can with this wedding. Do you need to send out both “save-the-date” and wedding invites to your guests? And when do you send out the save the dates vs the wedding invites? I was thinking of not having wedding invitations but just sending out the save-the-date as an invite but I’m not sure if that will suffice so I can keep a head count of who all has RSVP’d and etc. Also does anyone have any great places on where to buy some save-the-dates prints and wedding invitations?

Thank you!

Save the dates are optional and are sent 6-8 months before the wedding. They should not take the place of wedding invites as they do not require a RSVP. Wedding invites go out 6-8 weeks prior, more time if it is OOT/destination.

Minted, shutterfly, basic invites, vistaprint are some sites

I also agree save the dates are optional. They are not a must.

I am doing electronic save the dates, and paper invitations to save money. I always see good deals on Zazzle and Vista Print, and they have really pretty invitations.

My suggestion would be to at least do the invitations so there's information about timing, location, rsvp cards, food choice (if doing a plated meal). The save the dates are much more of future notice of the date and location. Typically save the dates are sent out 6-8 months in advance and invites are sent 6-8 weeks in advance. My friends sent an e-card and email for their save the dates and that worked just as well!

I agree that save the dates are optional but I also think it depends on where you're getting married and where most of your guests are coming from. If most people are traveling they need to know a good time in advance to be able to book tickets take off time from work etc. But it doesn't mean it has to be something printed you could certainly do email save the dates with a printed invitation

We used magnetstreet.com for our save the dates. Sign up for their emails, they have deals pretty often. We scored 30% off our entire order. I agree that save the dates are completely optional though!!

Definitely skip the save the dates, not the invitations.

I wasn't sure what to do, especially since my wedding is a destination wedding where I plan to live. I did "word of mouth"to my close friends and family that live and visit my state quite often. Since I did this I didn't worry about doing save the dates. I used Vista print to do my invitation and RSVP cards. Very inexpensive and you can create your own 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

We have ended up just contacting out of town family members and friends via phone, text, emails, and made sure they know the date and city/state. So no Save the Dates needed.

You don’t have to send a STD it’s just a heads up, honestly if my wedding wasn’t in another state for half the guests I would have skipped it. Send your invitations out 6-8 weeks before the final head count is due.

We used zazzle for STDs and Invitations by Dawn. Good luck 🍀

We did save the dates because about 60% of our guest list wasn't local to where the wedding was held. We wanted people to have plenty of time to arrange travel.

I have seen people do save the dates thru social media and mail out invitations to help cut cost. I would definitely do invitations. You can get some really nice invitation sets at your local craft stores and save money by printing them yourself.

We're doing both save the dates and invitations from Vistaprint, we alsp got RSVP cards to match the invites, and we got 25% off the order!. Our save the dates are magnets, getting them this week!!! We figure, this way they can be an easy reminder, be in sight, and can hold the RSVP card until they respond - especially with our wedding being a destination wedding in December and us sending our save the dates with our invites. We also want to make sure that everyone has all the information as early as possible so travel arrangements can be made!

I did not do save the dates as I am having a small wedding and everyone who needs to know details does, but I will be sending invitations to verify who's coming and who's not.

In my opinion save the dates are optional. I am using them to send to family and friends who are out if town and probably will not make it to the wedding.

We skipped save the dates- just told people via word of mouth. If you're going to skip one why not skip those? You need the actual invitations to invite people and so they can reply. People don't reply to a save the date.

Skip the save the dates - they lock you into a guest list. Your VIP's will know form you or family. Invites - don't skip, obviously!! Lots of work, lots of expense, lots of postage.
