Sanity-how do people stay sane during planning?!

Hannah, on January 31, 2020 at 10:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
So I got engaged October 2019 and I am getting married September 2020-it’s the end of January 2020 and I’m already having meltdowns, panic attacks, and simply over the whole wedding planning. We’ve got a huge amount done-venue, planner, dress, caterer, photographer, officiant, baker, hair/makeup person but now I’m working on the guest list, decorations, plan showers, meet with florists and I feel like there are so many little detail decisions that I am going to go crazy!!!!! How does one stay mentally stable while planning a wedding?! Am I the only one that’s crazy?! SOS

What helped for me was to put it in perspective. We were throwing a party to celebrate our love. Guests are not going to care what color the napkins are or how many flowers you have in your bouquet. They are there to celebrate the love you as a couple share for each other. To me, reframing it in that sense made the planning process so much easier because I stopped stressing about the little things.

You take breaks. What helped me was having days where I just don't do wedding planning stuff. It's a chance to breathe and to do other things in your life.

We’ve had our wedding planned out since 2017 but started really planning last spring . Then actively going through it with in November 2019 and you just have to take deep breaths and relax. I use this app called wedding planner and it’s very useful .

September 2020 wedding here as well! I'm finding just tackling one thing at a time makes it easier, instead of getting overwhelmed thinking about multiple things just make a list of to do items and work down it and don't worry about what's coming next

I guess because we have had a long (18 months) engagement we were able to take our time with everything and that helped with things being pretty stress free. We are a little over 4 months out now and working on paying off vendors and the detail things. I would say just prioritize what needs to be done first and focus on those tasks, once those are done you can check them off and move on to the next thing. I hope this helps!! There will always be some stressful moments for all of us, right now I'm dealing with Bridesmaids who haven't ordered our special order dresses yet and if they don't order them in the next two weeks, they won't come in time for the wedding.
