Sample Dress one size too small?

Morgan, on April 14, 2018 at 4:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21
I previously found an Essence of Australia dress that I’m obsessed with, and can’t get out of my head, but my hesitation was that it’s close to double what my dress budget is. However I’m going to a sample sale tomorrow at a different salon, and they just so happen to be selling that dress for half of the original cost! I was totally excited until I realized the dress is one size too small— I’m bridal size 14, it’s a 12. Assuming the dress is in good condition, should I buy the dress and work like hell for the next 17 months to lose the weight? I was planning on doing that anyways, but I know people say to never by a dress size too small in the off chance you don’t lose the wait you want. But since this is a one day sale, would you guys see this as an exception? Any guidance will be much appreciated 😩

I would go for it, especially since it's a sample it could be a little stretched out anyway!

I think it depends on how small it fits. Can it zip up but just feels tight or can you not zip it up at all? It is easier to take in a dress than make one bigger just in case you don't lose enough weight. On the flip side, 12 and 14 is not a drastic size difference and your wedding is over a year away. The price can be hard to pass up, also. Good luck! Smiley smile

I would say go for it as well! Don't lose focus though if you purchase it

Do it! As long as you know that you will be able to lose some weight, you should be good.

Would it be possible to put a corset back in it to have a little more room?

Are you sure you are a 14 in their stuff? Their sizes seem pretty true to size. I can float between 12 and 14 for sizes and the 12 seemed just too tight for me so I got a 14 of the dress and figured we can alter down instead of hoping the other fit.

I'd do it! Can't beat the price. Just be wary of how much time you have left before the wedding to make sure you're getting your gym time in. The sizes are really close though, so I'm sure you'll be fine!! That's such a lucky find!

Also, if you're not picky about it being used, you can check preownedweddingdresses.com and see if that have that exact dress in the exact size you need. Maybe the price will be comparable?

I'd check the measurements. Essense sizes a little differently than other brands.

Even if it's not quite your size, 50% is a really great deal. I never advise buying a dress that's not your size (seen a bride being safety pinned into her dress before) but taking it a size out is doable (though you may spend more than if you got your size)

    Good luck!

I got an essence dress and am normally a size 6 or 8 but fit perfectly in their size 12; I wouldn’t say it is true to size.

What is the style? Honestly, I would go for it. If you start now and commit to a healthy lifestyle you got this!

Truthfully i would go for it. One day sale, it’s only one size off, and you have plenty time to work your body to fit in it. If you’re in love with the dress, take the chance

You need to see if their size 12 is remotely close to a street sized 12 or is it the mysterious wedding world size 12 which could be a street size 8. If it doesnt come really close to fitting i wouldnt touch it. A dream dress is no good if it doesnt fit.

I'd go for it! You cant beat 50% off!! Like PP said, it's only one size off! And since you said you wanted to lose some weight anyway, now you have a huge motivator! But I would set a goal, like lose the weight in 4 months, so you still have time to a different dress in case something happens and you aren't able to fit into it.

Before you decide to do this ask yourself one question....if something were to happen and I could not fit into this dress, do I have enough money to purchase another? If the answer is yes then do it, if no then don’t. 17 months is a long time and honestly anything can happen. Yes you can go to the gym, eat healthy, do everything you can to be healthy but sometimes other things happen. I don’t mean to be a downer just want to realistic as I would hate to see you spend a ton of money on a dress that is already to small, work like hell to fit the dress, and then something go wrong and you be unable to purchase a dress you like.

If it’s the same ball gown you posted it’s the same one I purchased!! The difference between my two sizes was one inch so if that’s the difference between a 12 and 14 then go for it!!!! Also she said the high back makes it easy to zip people in if it’s a little small. Hope it works out!!!

I would suggest going and trying it on on the size they have and feeling it out from there, if it seems doable for you to fit into it by your wedding day then I say do it !!.. but if it’s too tight in an area like your chest then it may not work
