Melody, please give us more details on where you are located, etc. I had a videographer for my wedding but we were told 3 weeks to have it available after editing. I'm not sure how many videographers will be able to edit it the same day.

I'm confused, are you shooting your own video or something and trying to have a videographer edit it for you? Even then I doubt it could be properly edited in a day. Or are you trying to find a videographer to shoot your wedding and do same day edits (which won't happen unless the videographer is not professional. Like they are really going to go home and work all night after your wedding to give you your video the next day).

Any videographer worth their snuff would not want to rush the editing process and give you work that isn't well edited. ETA: but that all begs the question, why do you need it back in such a hurry?

What do you consider an arm and a leg? Are you saying you want your video edited on the same day it was shot? Be ready to pay for it. Most videographers who would be able to do this well are professionals, please treat them accordingly. If you want something thrown together, find a college student with a camera and editing software.

I have seen quite a few same day edits and I'm not a fan. 1. You need more than one videographer unless you're fine with the videographer sitting out a portion of the night editing rather than capturing. 2. It's different from the highlight video one gets a few weeks after the wedding. You'll get the same shots in the highlight video so why not wait a couple of weeks, save that money, and let the videographer capture the wedding day rather than edit. 3. It's only handy if you plan on watching it with guests that night. I always find watching slideshows and videos weird at weddings and it would be just as weird watching a video of the day rather than dancing/eating.

    Save your money.

@kiwi this is a same day edit at my venue. There was a videographer team of 3 and one did the edits. There are related videos to this wedding that show the videographer editing that day. https://youtu.be/snJCRNBAp1s. Eta: @OP don't expect this quality with every videographer. This guy charged A LOT and you then also pay for the additional videographers.

I have one friend who hired a videographer who does an ammmazing next-day edit, and it was actually cheaper than their full package. However - this is not something that I see commonly offered, my turn-around time on video will be 4-6 months Smiley sad

Is there a reason that you really want this?

The wedding is in Los Angeles, CA. I've been to several weddings where they showed the highlights from the wedding at the reception. I was quoted $1400 in addition to a video package of $1500 which is very reasonable, but I haven't seen any of his same day edits. Every other videographer I've come across is quoting $3000+ video package + $2500 for same day edit.

@OP you have gotten great advice already, but you should know that not all videographers can pull a same day edit. I have seen a few played at the reception and IT WAS LOVELY. Maybe if you tell us your location and budget more people can help out. My videographer does it but will need to bring an extra videographer that day so as not to miss capturing any moment but he is in Texas.

Check out NST Pictures - they charge $1980 for the Same Day Edit (with music and dialogue) but that's all you're getting. Their lowest package is $1580 and that gets you 6 hours of coverage, 1 cinematographer, a 3-5 minute cinematic trailer, ceremony only rough cut and an HD digital film link. Their next highest package is $1980.

    ETA: grammar

Maybe you should ask the people who had this at their wedding who they used for videographers. I'm not sure that I understand the whole idea of having a highlight video of the wedding at the reception unless there is a time lapse between the two. Other than that it is still fresh on most peoples mind but they also want to eat, drink and be merry. I'm sure you and your FH would enjoy it more privately once things have settled down as the two of you will be seeing it for the first time.

I live in Hawaii..FH was a GM in his friends wedding two years ago and they had a videographer that did Same-Day-Edits. They had it played at their wedding and FH said it was incredible (I've seen it and it always makes me tear up). So he absolutely wanted one for our wedding, and wouldn't settle for anyone besides the company that did his friends wedding.

Same Day Edits are possible to do, and their very common where I live.

However we are paying a lot for it (nothing is ever cheap in Hawaii), but in the end FH and I both wanted it so we don't only have pictures of our day.

The company we're going with is going to capture the BP getting ready, and the Ceremony. Once he gets what he needs, he leaves to edit it. Then he comes back to play it at our reception (it gives those that didn't attend the Ceremony a chance to see it, as well as seeing the getting ready process of everything).

I absolutely LOVE our videographers work. Here's a link to FH's friends weddings videography.

**It really all depends on pricing, if you really want it done or if it can be done. If you do want it, I highly recommend seeing the videographers work before booking, as I've seen other companies that offered SDE...I just didn't like how their videos turned out (you see clutter, people talking, un-necessary things were captured..it was as if they just tried to film whatever to lengthen the video).**

YES! I grew up in Hawaii (Kauai) and now live in Los Angeles and a lot of Videographers haven't done or don't do it here! I watch my friends Same Day Edits and I tear up because its so beautiful and allows the guests to be included in the pre wedding day festivities!

I also don't understand the concept of showing ceremony highlights at the reception, wouldn't guests have just seen the ceremony?

when you say "pre-wedding festivities", do you mean the videographer would record the shower, bachelor(ette) parties, etc. and show highlights of those events? I have never heard of that before

I love SDE but everyone that I have seen do them are pretty darn expensive so I am no help. It may help you guys to see one to understand what it is. The guests actually really like it and its very sweet. Take a look. You can actually see the couple watching the video at their wedding. https://vimeo.com/67170545

    @kelsey C

The videographer would take video of the bride and groom getting ready, capture the bride/groom exchange, bridal party gift, first look, etc.

Thank you @CM2CR! That's a good point about the potographers and videographers stepping on each other toes! Def something to really think about!

Not sure where you're located but our friends used them and it was SO AWESOME. During the reception, they played the same-day edit for us to watch - It was a mix of bride/groom interviews, them prepping for the wedding, the ceremony, and pictures of them growing up... woven together in a 15-20 minute video that we watched during the dinner portion. In the bottom corner of the video, it showed live feed of the bride and groom watching. It was really pretty awesome.

Http://www.theater10.com and http://www.romanticweddingvideos.net make lovely films at relatively reasonable rates, and both offer a same-day edit.

    Hi Melody,

I used a videography service called Bloom Productions in LA. They are very reasonably priced and were great to work with.

Their packages start at $1500 for 2 videographers, 10 hours of coverage and a highlight video. They have drone footage for an additional fee and I think they also do same day edits.

    Good luck!
