SALMON OR TILAPIA?!

Samantha, on January 29, 2014 at 4:33 PM

We chose fillet mignon, chicken kiev and are a little stuck between serving tilapia or salmon as the fish. Both tasted delicious but I think more guests would prefer salmon but could be wrong? Any suggestions or experiences with these fish and what people like better?!

I think most would like salmon since that's the go-to "fish" option usually. I like both, but then again, I like almost any seafood - I even like catfish!

I would definitely choose salmon, over the steak & chicken too! Omnomnom.

I think it depends on how you are serving it. What are the sides, or any sauces?

Personally, I like both but I would probably take Tilapia because it is lighter and is not so fishy.

I find Tilapia a more mild fish so that's my vote!

My family are Salmon snobs. I love it fresh out of the ocean. If it's farm raised - NO. Tilapia is gross. I like it and wish I didn't know anything about it.

Haddock. I'm not sure what tilapia is, but wild salmon is expensive, and farm raised salmon is scary (they have to dye it pink)....

I am a BIG fan of fresh salmon, with that being said I will eat farmed salmon sometimes too, even though it's just not the same. One time I saw on "Dirty Jobs" that tilapia are the fish that eat all the other fish's poop in fish farms. This could be totally un true, but I've never eaten it.

I enjoyed talapia until I read some information on how it's raised in China. I wasnt sure about how true it was until I asked a co worker who is Tiwanese and she confirmed the exact same thing I read in an article. The article spoke about salmon as well. I would ask the caterer about the supplier they use, to see where its coming from because salmon can be farm raised as well!!!

SK them if the salmon is farm raised, if it is, don't get it, a lot of people won't eat it. Wild salmon only..

I prefer salmon because I've had tilapia that wasn't done very well and it didn't taste very good.
