Saga of the $5 Wedding Dress

W-K, on September 28, 2019 at 10:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 16
Now turned craft project 😂 I was dissatisfied that it looked too plain so I started some beading along the neckline. I also got some satin to make a sash but so far I’m not digging the sashed look when I was measuring how much to use. Ignore the color (not the satin I’m using) but I think it breaks the silhouette too much. Two beading attempts were done I like the second one with more little one better.

Not loving the sash. I think the belt needs to be thinner, and up towards the bust a bit. Like the top of where the sash starts. I picture a belt more like these maybe.

With the right belt and crinoline peeking out I don't think you'd need beadwork. It would have a nice 50s look to it.

I think it just sits too awkward on my bust and tummy for any belt. It like does the opposite of what I want it to do 😂

Another option, is a simple bow. Tiny bow sewn on to the dress in the middle at the very top of the dress instead of beadwork, or a slightly larger bow sewn on in the front where your belt would be. Not a floppy bow, but a firm bow like the pics.

I think the dress was nicer without the embellishments and belt added but I do also wonder if you added lacing then maybe it would be a more subtle detail

I personally think it doesn't need any beading. Look into a nice belt/sash with a bow

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for that peekaboo crinoline! It looked so good! Is it possible to sew a thin layer of it to the bottom inside of your dress? So it appears to be peekaboo crinoline without puffing up the back too much? Adding that and a bow could be wowza!

I agree about a peekaboo crinoline! I think it would make it really pop. Maybe you can find a less poofy petticoat to do it with? I'm not a fan of the beading if I'm being super honest; I feel like a necklace would accomplish that look better. A small amount of lace around the collar just barely peeking up from behind the fabric would be cute I think! I'm in the same boat of "awkward belly", so I'll be wearing a corsetted dress the day of and probably shapewear or a corset in my 'can't stand my wedding dress anymore' outfit and avoiding belts and sashes like the plague.

I’ll see if I can get the peekaboo crinoline in the back. My butt has been making the underskirt ride up too much so it’s uneven. My sisters tend to like the beading so I may keep it. I did do it in a way it’s be easy to remove, though. So there’s that.

Nice!! I actually ended up going a completely different direction. My step mom had bought me a wedding dress off of the Wish app for $16. I ended up wearing that instead.

Thank you! Yeah $16!!! After seeing the Wish try ons on YouTube I thought it would be a disaster (she ordered it without asking me) but it turned out so great.
