Rush Wedding - Advice Please

Tamika, on April 16, 2020 at 5:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Hi all I had a wedding date previously picked out 08/21/2021 but my mom was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We want to have some kind of wedding within the next month so that she can see me get married. Can you provide any suggestions on a simple ceremony. I know it will be hard due to the coronavirus. Thanks in advance!!

Oh no I am sorry to hear that! How about a backyard wedding if possible ? You can always rent a rent that is also my back up plan.

Before this pandemic, it would have been easy to get married at your local courthouse with your mom in attendance (I am sorry for her bad news!) and then go to a nice lunch or dinner together afterwards.

But the current situation complicates that of course. You will need to contact your local courthouse and see if they know when they will be issuing marriage licenses/performing weddings again. You may have to wait a couple weeks for them to be staffed again. And once that part is set, then you can choose your favorite local restaurant and order a celebratory takeout meal to eat at yours or your mom's house.

Im so sorry to hear. I would get an officiant through thumbtack or here or do universal life church and get a close family member. Get a special dress on line. Most courthouses are open for emergency things including marriage Licenses but may have limited hours. Gets some flowers Costco, Whole Ford, Trader Joe’s I saw someone who got married outside with cars surrounding them (headlights toward b &g). Don’t forget a cake from bakery, photos and video. Treasure this time with her. Blessings for all.

I'm so sorry about your mom. Sending you all the best wishes. We eloped on our original date, and the most complicated part we ran into was the license. Thankfully I plan ahead, and we got our license well ahead of everything shutting down! But then you just need to find an officiant. We got a bouquet from the grocery store, and our families watched from zoom as his best friend married us in the doorway. Not ideal and our pictures aren't great, but we got married! You can find locations, but depending on your city it might be harder to find something outdoors.
