RSVP- postcard vs. enevlope

Christa, on March 21, 2013 at 2:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I have found invitations that I love but with the pockets that fit the invite I can't fit an envelope in the side pocket. So what is everyone's opinion on having the RSVP be a postcard (with the address and stamp directly on the back of the 3 1/2 x 5 card. Has anyone had issues with them? Pros? Cons?

Thank you in advance!

My STD was supposed to be a postcard but my mother was afraid some random would get a hold of it and crash my wedding...whatever. That being said, I don't think it's that big of a deal, but there is the chance it could get ripped or dirty.

Just make sure when the RSVP postcard is printed it is on thick enough paper that can be used as a postcard. It'll also save you money on stamps!

I'm doing the postcard style. No reason to pay more than I have to for postage!

And Jamie... did your RSVP also have the time/date/location of the wedding? I feel that's the only way that a crasher would know, and mine doesn't have that info. Just a yes/no basically! Smiley smile

@Trena B. My STD was supposed to be a postcard but we ended up putting it in envelopes. But the RSVP shouldn't have all that info on it anyway. As long as it is sturdy go for it. Now I will say I do postcards for events that we have at my store and if I get some back for bad addresses they don't look too hot from the post office stamping them and also dirt.

Welcome to WW, Christa! I think the postcard style is fine -- one wedding we went to last year did this as a good way to save on postage. As long as the paper is at least cardstock, you should be fine. We sent out postcard invites to our engagement picnic that we had printed on white cardstock and everyone received them without issue.

I hope you'll update your avatar (the rings) to ANY unique picture we can more easily remember you by in the future. This post tells you how to do that and more: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/welcome-to-the-weddingwire-forums-please-read-if-you-are-new/b433c40c1a62b96a.html

Thanks, ladies! I appreciate the feedback. I will definitely use thicker paper to ensure mailing and I like how the postage is cheaper =) I'm not so worried about them returning to me dirty but hopefully its not bad enough so that its unreadable.

We made our own invites and printed out the postcard RSVP on just bulk cardstock(the heavier stuff) Just make sure they meet the size requirements listed on the usps website. We haven't had a problem getting them back i think i only had one "dirty" one otherwise they dont look too bad when we get them. The only problem is some of our guests didn't realized that they were supposed to send them back now that they know were getting flooded yay.

I used the postcard. Some of my RSVP's came back a little smudged, but they are all still legible.

@megan- that was my concern too! I was worried that people wouldnt realize they were supposed to mail it back. Maybe I'll place them in so the first thing they see is the return address and stamp so that they realize something needs to be mailed back

I am still wavering between a postcard (less postage) or an envelope. An envelope would make the invite bulkier. I may end up going with the postcard just simply to save money, because of having to buy the envelopes seperately.

LOL for postcard postage all they have are apple stamps. Do stamps really matter what they look like?

I am doing RSVP postcards too! Just make sure they are at least 3 1/2 x5 in and .007 in thick and no more than 4 1/4 x 6 and .016 thick and rectangular.

So excited to save on postage. My mom was a little freaked out to send something without an envelope because she heard robbers can target your house if they know you're at a wedding. Had to promise her the date and venue would stay off! Entrees only! Lol

I did the RSVP postcards as well. It only has the rsvo deadline date, meal preferences, their name, and the return address. No wedding date or location. So you should be good to go. Smiley smile

Just a FYI... I did Postcard Save The Dates to save on postage and realized later that all the postage stamps from post officr are pretty UGLY (if u care about that) or i could nuy EXPENSIVE custom stamps from like zazzle. and ended up buying regular white flower stamps from PO defeating whole purpose. Lol
