Rsvp dilemma: overhead at the gym

If you plan on having an online rsvp only be mindful of these comments. As I was getting changed at the gym 2 ladies were across changing as well. They were talking about a wedding invite they received. The women goes "I either need to rsvp online or through text." The other women says "well that saves on postage" and then the first woman says "it's also tacky!" I wanted to chime in and say sometimes it easier on the bride but I kept my mouth shut. Good thing I planned on paper invites as well as online.

I wouldn't say it's tacky- i prefer online or text - we happen to have a lot of older guests so we are including stamped rsvp cards-

When we sent out our invitations we gave people options -- to RSVP by mailing it back, going on our wedding website or just calling/texting me. Seemed to work out fine that way. If I heard from them verbally or by text I just went into my guest list and RSVP'd online for them.

We did online only because we are quite likely moving within a month of our wedding - and we don't know to where at this point. So rather than send them to my parents house (many states away) we are going the online route.

UO. Do what fits your guests. I could barely get ppl to open the mail to even get the damn STDs i cant imagine the headache i would have asking them to return something via mail. I kept getting the " oh we havent checked the mail lately" The last 3 weddings I attended all were very formal and did online only RSVPS. You can choose to adapt to technology or Not. Its a preference. We communicate with 98% of our guests through some form of social media/online networking. It will be fine. Just because it isnt what YOU prefer doesnt make it tacky. Things go wrong with mail just like they do with things online. Do whats best for you.

We had a "grand affair," we had a formal wedding, we had all the bells & whistles, the whole 9 yards, boxed invitations covered in fabric, and an insert card, that asked guests to respond via our wedding website. After doing online research and reading about the number of guests who never return those postage-paid cards, we took another route, and saved a tree.

Call the etiquette police! Clutch your pearls!

We received responses from 248 of 250 invited guests, 10 days before our due date. My then 87 year old grandmother, who primarily uses the internet to play games, was able to do it.

And of the 2-dozen weddings we've been invited to? The ones who mailed-out the returnable cards had outdoor weddings, weddings in barns, who went for - and I quote them- "rustic and simple," or, based on the level of guest hosting we observed, didn't have large budgets.

Thats what I'm doing. I have enough paper in my house and plus it's a cost saver. Weddings are expensive as is. Plus I feel it's more convenient for others.

We did rsvp cards that were pre stamped and pre addressed by me! They also have the option of doing it online.

I prefer paper RSVPs and that's what I did. I also included a SASE for my guest to return it in.

My one experience with someone wanting RSVP done electronically was a disaster. Granted she wanted text/email RSVP but since she put her & DH information guess who didn't keep up with responses when he got them? She ended up doing a FB event for RSVPs which was its own shitshow.

Weddings are typically viewed as formal events, so I would not forgo the stationary and rely on online RSVPs. Also, you're supposed to put a stamp on the RSVP envelope so you can just stick it in the mailbox.

I prefer paper so I can go back and double check what people actually put. I think online RSVPs are a little more tedious. I would have to turn on my computer, navigate to the site, then RSVP. Paper is a lot more simple to me.

I sent out formal invitations, but asked people to RSVP online. In addition to saving trees, it allowed people to ask questions they couldn't ask on a paper RSVP. For the few people on our list that I knew were not comfortable navigating online, I reached out directly to them with a phone call and entered their response myself. If you are doing online RSVP, make sure you test it out before you mail the invites.

I agree with rachael. I think it's tacky to only do an online rsvp.

'It's a huge event, the most expensive per person event you will ever host, so I just don't understand spending tens of thousands and then skimping on the intro to the event -- the printed invitations.'

Look you could say this about anything in the wedding then. Why spend tens of thousands and then skimp on this and that. I think it's fine to cut back on invites, it will not effect your guests experience of your actual wedding one iota.

I personally will be doing RSVP online and through the mail. I've heard enough horror stories on WW about not getting back RSVP's. I want to give my guests as many options as possible to hopefully save myself the headache.

Also, OP you're from Sparta! I live in West Milford. I love finding people on here who are close by lol.

We did paper invites and online RSVP. We didn't need any details except who is coming and who is not. We did not need meal choices etc. It all worked out, there were no issues with the website.

We did paper invites and online rsvp. You can rsvp from your phone (to the person complaining about turning on their computer).

I don't think it's tacky to use online rsvps.

I'm giving people the option of RSVPing online or via mail - so I'm including RSVP cards. I don't see it as a waste - it provides convenience to our guests.
