RSVP date how far in advance from wedding date?

Annie & Javi, on June 19, 2015 at 10:08 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

I googled and found a bunch of mixed responses. I want at least a month and a half, my MOH thinks about a month is more appropriate. What is everyone else doing?

ETA; Final numbers have to be to the venue and bakery two weeks before the wedding date.

We mailed ours out 4/30 for ours. I know we're early but we're also DW, so most people had already decided what they were doing. I think six weeks is what is traditional. It also depends on when your final numbers are due to your caterer. ETA: I'd give yourself at least a week if not two to track down people who didn't rsvp before your caterer deadline.

Depends when your numbers are due to your vendors. I'd give yourself two weeks ahead of that, especially if you're having a larger wedding. You need time to track down people. Our venue didn't need numbers until today but we put the date at four weeks so that we could finalize all details that require the headcount (centerpieces, cake, etc.).

A lot can happen in a six weeks between the RSVP date and the wedding. Ours is likely going to be two weeks before the wedding. Our headcount is due two days before the wedding.

Ours was a month out. Find out when you need final numbers, and give yourself a little time to follow up with people that don't rsvp. Give yourself enough time, but keep it as close to your date as you can.

We set our due date 3 weeks before the wedding date.

Then we figured out that the florist needed the number of tables 4 weeks out, to figure out the number/type of flowers needed to order, the decor firm needed the chair count 4 weeks out, because they stock black and white chair covers, and we wanted ivory, and the linen company needed the number of tablecloths, and which size table, 4 weeks out.

    We hit a big uh-oh!

Luckily we had 248 of 250 guests respond, 10 days before our due date. We don't know if it was online RSVPs, or the fact that we wrote "for late reponses, please e-mail XXXXX," and the usually tardy guests figured that they couldn't be.

My deadline was June 13th, weddings July 4th. My final headcount is due the Monday before so I figured that was enough time to hunt people down who waited or forgot to send theirs in

Ours is 3 weeks. We have to provide headcount 2 weeks before wedding. A month and a half is a long time. People flake out and forget or change their mind LOL

I agree, give them too long to reply and people forget and flake out. Our RSVP date is September 29th, our wedding is October 17th. We have to give final numbers 1 wk before. I left myself a buffer to track ppl down for one week. Then the following week is the week before my wedding (I'll be too busy to track down rsvps) and the week of I definitely have no intention of tracking ppl down.

Out deadline is 3 weeks for the venue. So we are doing a month early. I think it's too much I would have preferred another week but needed some time to call just in case people don't return. I would say a month and half is too far in advance. Why do you want it that far if your venue only needs 2 weeks. I'm having a large wedding and a week is plenty.

It depends on the deadline your venue/caterer gives you. Then, back the date up about a week to give you time to contact anyone who doesn't RSVP

You only need 1-2 weeks to track down non-responders. 4 weeks before your wedding is plenty of time to meet your venue deadline and is most common. 1.5 months is too far in advance to require a response.

My final head count was due to the caterer about two weeks prior. So I did two weeks prior to that deadline so one month prior. I wanted those two weeks to track people down and get a head start on everything else requiring final numbers (favors, centerpieces, seating chart, # of menus and programs to get printed, etc).

I also want to mention I had 100% attendance. If you unnecessary make it too early, I agree with other posters more chances of guests flaking out at the last minute.

A month is good. most venues, caters want a head count at least 2 weeks in advance. you will need a week or two to call people and follow up for those who dont respond.

We did 4 weeks. That gives us 2 weeks to track down people who don't turn it in on time. I thought about doing only 1 week before we need to give the venue our count; but, some people don't drop the rsvp in the mail until the day it is due.
