RSVP Change form No to Yes Changed One Week Before Wedding...Am I Aweful

SoonToBeMrs081316, on August 9, 2016 at 11:54 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

It is one week before our wedding and the stress is finally winding down when I get a message from a not so close family member saying that she and her hubby are now able to attend. Our final numbers were due one week ago, seating is set and we've cut a bank check to the venue in the amount of our final payment. I explained that the venue required final numbers a week ago and we could not make changes...but I also didn't really try to add her. I'm honestly just very stressed and couldn't imagine contacting the venue to try and add two more people, and then trying to find them a seat. Am I horrible?!

Edited for reading comprehension issues. No - you are not horrible. Don't stress yourself out. You are in the right here, and don't need to bend over backwards to try and accommodate them.

I don't think you're terrible. They RSVP'd no. That's a big expense and headache to worry about week of. For example, our venue is $140pp including admin fees and taxes, so that would be almost $300 to worry about week of the wedding. Don't worry about it!

Hey, there's a reason we have deadlines for RSVPs. You're not terrible at all.

You aren't horrible, I'm sure they are aware of how weddings work and that you need numbers early

She was understanding about it, I just felt kind of aweful!

This wedding planning stuff is stressful! Every week I'm say, "This week should be better and maybe I'll get some sleep." but nope! Something new comes up every week that stresses me out, and I've been pretty laid back about things and accepting what I have no control over.

I'm looking forward to it all coming together and being able to enjoy the night.

You're not awful (there is no e in awful, fyi). Though pretty much every venue can easily accommodate 2 extra people and actually plan ahead for the possibility of more people showing up beyond the final count.

Its just a matter of a quick phonecall and saying 'hey, can we add 2 more to the headcount? please let us know the price difference'. If you dont want to do that, thats totally fine (i wouldnt, unless they were someone close to me) - but its seriously not worth stressing over. You're going to drive yourself insane if you choose to work yourself up over every little hiccup.

Nope. You gave them a deadline. They said no. If they had changed before the deadline it would be different but its not.
