Room Block Question - How many nights?

TripleRock6601, on October 2, 2015 at 10:21 AM Posted in Planning 1 17

I am in the process of negotiating room blocks with 2 different hotels right now and I requested only one night (our wedding night). Now, I am kind of kicking myself, thinking I should have requested maybe the night before as well.

For your room blocks, did you request one or two nights? Is only one night OK?

We did the night before as well because our hotel check in is at 4pm so people may not be able to check in on our wedding day until the ceremony starts. Check with the hotels to make sure people can check in early on the day of the wedding.

We did both nights. If they go unused they get released. Just call them back, they can adjust it. I had to change mine a few times.

And for same reason as FutureMrs. Brbr. Check in is at 3 and I didnt think that was enough time for people.

Thank you both! It hit me as soon as I got off the phone with them that I should probably do the night before as well. I appreciate the confirmation!

We did three nights actually, only because our hotel let us and so we went for it. We're a Friday wedding, so we did Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

I reserved it for before and after (Friday night and Saturday night) but they also gave me just a few rooms for Thursday night and Sunday night in case we had any family staying a little longer.

I'm working on room blocks now and Wedding Wire has a free wedding block concierge service. Just give them the info and they do the work for you. I was looking around for something else (because apparently there's more to WW than just awesome forums) and stumbled upon it. You might want to check them out.

We did a block just for our wedding night but also a few rooms for the night before just in case... If you think you might need extra rooms the night before I am sure they will work with you to reserve some.

We did Fri and Sat for a Sat wedding since many guests are OOT. Mainly just our wedding party stayed both nights, but we did about 20 rooms for Saturday and 10 for Friday. Once those were filled we were able to add to our block up until 1 month before. We ended up with 13 for Friday and 35 for Saturday of people that reserved in our block. Any extras we added that were not used, the hotel released 1 month prior to wedding!

We had what they called a shoulder rate so it was available a few days before and a few days after incase people wanted to make a mini vacation out of it. They remainder of the rooms that were not booked just got released on September 24.

We did 3 nights, that was the just the basic they gave us at the Radisson. I thought that was perfect for out of town guest that want to make a whole weekend of it. A lot of our guests are traveling in from another state.

We booked for two nights but our guests can add additional nights when booking at the same price. That leaves less work or worry for you

I did a room block for two nights. The first night is mainly for the wedding party, but if I get request for more rooms the night before I will add them. Majority of the rooms blocked were for the actual wedding day. The check-in is early enough for the guests to get ready at the hotel or come ready but just check in and relax until ceremony time.

You should do 2 nights. I only blocked the night of our wedding, but fortunately the hotel has been great and has given everyone the discount price for their entire stay. Since it is downtime the rooms are available for multiple nights (lucked out again). After learning how many people are booking 2 or 3 nights though I would definitely recommend blocking off for 2.
