Roaring 1920's Themed Wedding

TinkerBell, on August 25, 2009 at 11:56 AM Posted in Planning 1 19

I'm just in the beginning of planning but, was thinking of a 1920's style themed wedding. Has anyone done this before and do you have any great ideas?

That's an awesome Idea! I'd have a big band theme with the music, a classic hollywood premiere party feel! I'm jealous I want that theme!

I would look for a space that was Art Deco (museums, old buildings, etc.) That type of style was big in the 20's and 30's. For music I would go more for a jazz feel, as big band era was really in the 1040's.

Flapper dresses for your bridesmaids could be very cool, with all of the fringes. Cloche hats (unless it is summer). The guys hair could be slicked back.

Or, since prohibition was still in effect, how about decorate the venue as a speakeasy? With bathtub gin!

I think I was born in the wrong decade!

You could pull off the hollywood look very easy at a hotel. If they have a seperate entrance for their ball rooms maybe you could even have a red carpet and set up some lights if the hotel would let you. Lighting would be a key decor item if you go for the hollywood look. You could also tone down the theme with the more muted colors in a golf course, guardan or other nature like location.

If I feel like if I could pull of the wedding planning I would SOOOOO do it. But I dont think there is really a market for it in my area. I have thought about being the "budget brides wedding assistant" and just fill in where needed or help get things started. That kind of thing and just charge by the project I will be doing. Like putting together DIY invites so the bride can focus on other things. That kind of stuff. I have to think it over later on when I have time to think.

Feather centerpieces and decor accents. Specialty tables can be decorated with feather boas.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the 20's Smiley smile

You should learn to Charleston, if you don't know already. Check out www.idance.com for online lessons.

If I were making a bigger to-do of my wedding and spending more $, I would have had a 20's theme. Like Lois, I was born in the wrong decade as well.

PS... She was right about the music. Go for vintage jazz rather than big band, which was 40's. Fats Waller is one of my favorite musicians from around then. I can get some other names for you, if you wish. My FH DJs the area swing dances.

Check out some great movies for an all over feel of the 1920's-

    "Bullets over broadway"

    "Sweet and lowdown"

"The cotton club" - this one has some of the best costumes ever! And of course, some really great music and dancing.

Reasearch! Big band is 40s, classic hollywood is 30s-40's. Art Deco, flappers, are classic 20s. Mob & prohibition/speakeasys are pretty close in period style.

I love Unique Vintage, as well!
