Ring is too big!

Hi! So I just got engaged this past weekend and my ring is about half a size too big. Should I get it sized down or get a ring guard? My mom thinks that I should get a ring guard for now so when I get pregnant and my fingers swell I can still wear my ring. I just don't want the guard to take away...

I would get it resized. Mine was too big when I first got engaged. I tried to do the ring guard to make it fit and it was the most annoying thing (in my opinion). Plus the way I see it is I didn't want to wear a ring guard the rest of my life so I got mine resized. If my fingers swell which sometimes they do it just gets a tad snug and if I need to remove it when that happens I just run my hands under water before trying to remove it.

Mine was half a size too big as well and I got resized.

Pregnancy is only nine months of your life, so I wouldn't base this decision solely on that.

I would get it resized. I originally started with a ring guard and I found it incredibly uncomfortable and at least the way the jeweler did it it was just a thin piece of gold that easily bent and either quickly went back to being to big or I'd adjust it too much and it would be wayyy too tight. Could totally be user error but I immediately took mine off. Also if you have smaller stones on your band I had issues with stones falling off before I got it resized because the ring would spin and the pretty part would be facing my palm instead of up and I wouldn't notice and it would get caught on things. If you're worried about finger swelling pps have good advice of wearing the ring on your pinky or you can wear it on a necklace until the swelling goes down. But it's really about what is going to be most comfortable for you to wear.

Talk to a jeweler. Mine was 1/2 size too big and with the structure of the ring and center stone, plus the anatomy of my hand, they said the beads wouldn't do anything and I'd still have the slipping problem.

I got mine resized from 6.25 to 5.75.

Pro tip from my FBIL who sold FH the ring: when they resize, ask to keep the sliver of gold/metal that they take out. Even if that's a sliver, that metal has value and you paid for it. It has a lot more value to the jeweler than the price of labor for resizing, so don't let them steal your gold.

I'd see how it fits with a band next to it before getting it resized - having a band might make up some of the difference.

    Or sizing beads!

    Congratulations on your engagement!!

My advice would be to get it resized. After a week of wearing mine with it being too big, I was too scared of losing it to wait! Don't worry, you'll have it back in about a week!

Lol I thought this was going to be a complaint about the size of the rock! Have it resized! My problem is mine is 1/4 size too large which is but isnt significant, so I'm not sure if it's worth resizing!

I would resize it but you can totally do what @Mrs. Fall Bride shared. My cousin had to resize her ring and she choose to beads welded onto the inside of her ring. I tried it on I thought it wouldn't be uncomfortable but it wasn't. It just kept your finger in the right place.

Half a size is a huge difference. I know you got the ring guard thing but I still think you should have it resized - if your fingers swell later (honestly this probably won't happen for a long time), you can get it resized again if you really have to.

I would never walk around wearing a ring half a size too big even if I had a piece of plastic on it taking up space - my ring was originally a quarter size too big and it drove me absolutely insane, I had it fixed right away. Pregnant now and I don't have a problem with my fingers swelling. Even if I did, I could just not wear the ring for the next 3 months. Not a big deal.

Talk to a jeweler. Mine was a tad too big but I wanted to get my wedding bands soldered to it, so the jeweler told me to leave it be. I'm glad I listened because now my rings are all soldered together and fit perfectly.

Our hands and fingers change size during the seasons. If you live in a temperate climate (all four seasons with a large difference in temperatures!) you will experience larger fingers in the summer and smaller fingers in the winter. Take this into consideration!

My ring fits perfectly now (July), but it once flew off my finger and across the room while I was putting on my coat (January)! Therefore, for me, it makes more sense to do the ring guard. But for you, since you're probably already at your most swollen in July (I'm so sorry I had to say that!) and it's still big, probably makes more sense to get it resized.

I had to get my resized by half a size down but am always cold so I might do another half size. It shouldn't be turning around on your finger.

Is it really that big? My bf had gotten me a size 7 but then I resized it to 5.5. Still feels a bit big but better than 7. Just know it takes 2 weeks to get it back

If you don't want it resized, there's a great ring guard product from Amazon, it's called 'Ring Shrinker'. My husband has it for his wedding ring. It's liquid and you apply it on the insides (it applies like nail polish) of the ring, place the ring by the flashlight the kit comes with and wait for it to solidify. The thing smells VERY strongly of chemicals but it really works! You can't even tell it's on. Also, although it sounds scary- it won't affect the metal of your ring because it's not permanent. After application, it'll stay for maybe a week and then it might need reapplication. I think it's way better than metal ring guards because I used to have one for my engagement ring and it would constantly get messed up.

Definitely resized. Agree pregnancy takes up a very short period of your life. Also,

your engagement and soon after is when you will be most excited about wearing it daily (yes, some people wear theirs everyday for the rest of their lives but many also end up just wearing a band). If it doesn't fit and it slips off, you won't have it when you are pregnant anyways. Get a ring that fits properly. Your life and body are made for more than being pregnant.
