Ring Insurance advice needed!

Private_User804, on January 18, 2016 at 4:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

My renter's insurance (Assurant, via Geico) told me that their personal articles addition will cover the value of the ring, but NOT the stones! The only other option I know of is Jeweler's Mutual, who have some bad reviews online from folks that made claims with them.

Anybody else got suggestions for good ring insurance? I go through Geico for my car and renter's insurance, but clearly that won't work for the ring since they don't include the stones.

American Family is insuring both our rings and stones... possibly look into them as an option. it is with the renters insurance.

I just insured mine under a separate private policy with my car insurance company (State Farm). I am paying about 1% of the cost of my ring annually and it covers any kind of theft, loss, etc.

I have Allstate homeowners insurance and tagged my ring including stones on to that (kind of its separate) maybe look into another insurance co. Like Allstate, State Farm etc. or you can ask the place you got the ring from for recommendations. I was not aware of an insurance company only insuring part of the ring and not the stones. Did you get an appraisal?

The personal articles addition, is that the same as scheduling an item? I work in insurance and just wondering if it may be called something else with them. But we have like your regular personal property we insure and then you can add on "endorsements" or "riders" for different things. So something like an engagement ring could go under personal property extension, or for better coverage - Scheduled personal property. This is where you give them the appraisal value and it is insured for that amount, at replacement cost. I would double check to see if they have something like that. Most companies do

I have mine insured through AAA. We added it as a rider to our renter's insurance. It is pretty affordable, they have you come in and either bring a receipt of purchase showing value or meet an appraiser if its vintage. Then you pay $10 per $1,000 of the ring's cost once a year. So if your ring was $3,000 you would pay $30 a year.
