Ring Cleaner?!!

Stefania, on December 30, 2016 at 9:56 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Hi! I ran out of jewelry cleaner for my engagement ring and I cannot find it anywhere online! Our jeweler had given it to us with the ring... any recommendations on which ring cleaner to purchase?! Thanks!!!

I use a DIY cleaner with 2 TBS of baking soda, a drop of dish detergent and warm water. Let it soak for 15 minutes rinse it with warm water and wipe it with a soft cloth. It will look like new.

I use hot water and dawn platinum dish soap. I leave my ring in there for 10-15 minutes then gently scrub with the toothbrush.

I'm pretty sure I've heard that regular old Dawn dish soap and a little water works just as good.

I have a diamond dazzle stick and the connoisseurs jar of cleaning solution. Both are sold at walmart and Bed Bath & Beyond.

Be careful using a chemical cleaner-especially if your ring is delicate! For example my ring is rose gold and the jeweler said those chemicals would erode the band quickly, they advised dawn soap and a baby toothbrush

I second Diamond Dazzle Stik. And I have gemstones and rose gold---it's gentle enough for them.

I clean my rings about once a week with a cleaner that comes in a red jar! I've seen it at Walmart, Target, drugstores, etc. Make sure you use the formula for precious metal. It makes my ring absolutely SHINE!

There are homemade cleaners out there for just about every metal & stone. Just make sure you research the ingredients before trying it. Even some house hold items (baking soda, vinegar, witch hazel) can be damaging to softer metals and stones. I have a gold ring with a solitaire diamond. Dirt gets trapped under the stone all the time.

For my ring and other gold jewelry, I like mixing baking soda, salt, and dishsoap in a bowl lined with aluminum foil. I let it soak for 10 min, then rinse. It works quite well. For silver, ketchup is a good (but messy) cleaning solution. It really depends on the metal. Do your research.
