Retaking wedding pictures

MrsRidley, on February 18, 2018 at 10:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15
The photographer we chose was really bad. His camera was great and the quality of the photos were awesome, but I sent him over a list of the poses I really wanted, and I only got two of those poses on the day of the wedding. When we were about to take the pictures, he said “Okay, what poses do you want to do?” And I literally could not remember any of the poses, so we only have a few good shots of him and I. Also, our wedding was on the coldest recorded day in 23 years, so our pictures were confined to a private section that the hotel let us use. I was thinking about getting my dress and his tux cleaned and taking a day in May or June where it will be warmer temperatures in Philly to redo our pictures (with a much better photographer of course). Does this seem silly? These are my wedding pictures and I barely have anything nice to show for it, besides a lot of candid shots at the wedding and shots of the same exact pose a million times.

First of all I’m so sorry that that was your experience. It does not seem silly AT ALL to get more pictures done with a different photographer if you aren’t completely happy. Do it!! Personally I think I would would prefer them to be in the same season as the original ones but honestly you can do whatever the heck makes you happy! Best of luck!

I reread and it doesn’t seem like you had an outdoor photos so I guess the season is irrelevant!

Yeah, the degree was literally -1, and they earned it would be very dangerous to be outside for very long periods of time (obviously) lol.

So glad you weren’t outside lol. But yeah I still think it would be cool to get some outdoor winter photos if you do a reshoot!!

That's so upsetting! I'm so sorry that happened to you, it is definitely a nightmare of mine. I agree also doing it in the same season, just so you don't have to explain that while you got married in January there are cherry blossoms blooming in the background of your pictures. But if you're okay with it then do whenever you want. I would probably do the exact same thing if mine turned out bad.

I’m definitely going to talk to H about when we’re going to do it. I’m too afraid to chance it and wait for our one year anniversary, but maybe if we do it early in the winter season. Thank you!

So sorry to hear your photog sucked. What about seeing if you can get a day soon? While temps may be warmer, nothing is growing yet so it will still seem like “winter”. Interestingly enough when we got engaged in Philly, it was the coldest day in like 20 years (and we were walking around lol).

Maybe 1st anniversary photos? It would be odd to me to have wedding pictures of greenery and flowers if I got married in january.

My FH and I are planning on a second shoot. Our wedding is this weekend in Ohio. It was originally supposed to snow, which would have been fine and made for beautiful photos. But now they're predicting lots of rain, which will make outdoor photos (at our wooded venue) impossible.

FH was actually the one who came up with the idea to do a secondary photo shoot and wants to make it a whole day type of deal, traveling around to pre-picked areas and getting good photos.

This time you can take your pictures with no wedding pressure. They should cost much less and screenshot all the possess you want so you can get the photos you really want. Think of using a different venue, or several. I am actually doing a retake and we are doing urban explorer photos and trash the dress photos. You can be as creative as you want! It's your chance to be different!

I say go for it! A chance to get dressed up in the dress again? Heck yeah!

Maybe even start a tradition of your own and do it every anniversary/every five years or so! Smiley smile

I just got back from my wedding in Cabo but felt so rushed with our photographer. I also didn’t get many with my family. I’m thinking of doing a post shoot to get all pics I wanted in a relaxed atmosphere when I’m not sweating.
