Restarting Wedding Planning

Like many, my fiance and I postponed our October 10, 2020 wedding to October 7, 2021. We made the decision early on in the pandemic because of clauses in our contract; we couldn't get a 'straight' answer from our venue as to what to do or how these clauses would affect a possible postponement down the road.

Since we made the decision, outside of purchasing New Date cards, I haven't done anything wedding related and since we postponed rather early, there are still things that need to be purchased and things to do! We still need to buy flower girl gifts, bridal party gifts, parent gifts, welcome sign decal, card box, guest book, some day-of accessories for both of us, and favors. We still need to do our food and cake tastings, purchase his attire, and get my alterations.

This weekend I decided to buy our flower girl gifts; these super cute sterling silver necklaces, personalized with their names from Etsy! Less than $15 each. I cannot wait to see what they look like with their names. I'm planning on putting them in these cute heart-shaped zipper pouches I got at Target for a few bucks each.

For those of you that have postponed, did you finish all the details of your wedding before then or do you still have a lot to do? If you have things to do, what's your plan of attack? I'm thinking we are going to finish up buying things, maybe one thing a month so it doesn't pile up next year. Since I already had a timeline of the tasks to complete for this year and I plan to move those tasks out to the same time next year (alterations, booking our honeymoon, tastings, etc).

I also have only small details to take care of. We need to get someone hired for the flowers, but other than that every big thing was done. Just need a card box and to make a sign for seating and maybe a no-phone ceremony poster. I may also need a few more table "numbers," but that's about it. We have no idea to when we are postponing, so I guess that's the next big thing lol. I hadn't even thought of a gift for our flower girl. Which etsy shop did you find that at? I may need to borrow your idea haha.

We rescheduled from 10/25 to 11/14/21, and we have A LOT to do. So the break is kinda nice. We mostly only had vendors done, and my dress purchased, and centerpieces. I don’t have any bridal accessories or gifts yet, no flowers, no tux’s figured out, no wedding bands, no transportation for the VIP crew to the venue, no decor, yeah I have a lot to do!

We were 10/10/20 as well and postponed in June. So everything was planned and booked (actually since January 2020). There were only a few small details that were being done closer to the date. We have since postponed to 10/30/21 and the great thing is that we have nothing left to plan during this COVID craziness. However, given the new date, I couldn’t help but to add a few extra details. But that’s all.

That's great! We reserved our venue in March 2019 so in January 2020 we were really set with our ideas. We've definitely added some details and add-on's since we have more time to pay for it!

My fiance and I just decided to postpone our 10/10/20 wedding ceremony and reception. A lot of our friends and relatives live outside of AZ (one of the hot spots) and were nervous about having to fly with Covid-19. My future mother-in-law has not left her assisted-living apartment since March and has no idea when they'll spring her. So it just made sense to postpone. I had just about everything done except for my dress alterations and the groomsmen's suits. He and I are still getting married that day because it's meaningful to me, with just a few close friends and the family that live here. I am heartbroken because I'm almost 54 and this will be my first and only wedding. I've waited my whole life and now I have to wait more. It might seem petty with all of the tragedy going on in this world, but I can't help feeling like this. The silver lining is that it gives us more time to save money.

We had 90% of our wedding planned at the time we officially postponed (6 weeks before our original date), but now that we postponed to 2022, we are just kind of waiting it out. I'm trying to find small wedding projects here and there to keep busy, but nothing major. I can be pretty indecisive, so I'm hoping to use these next two years to really figure out the wedding details I'm undecided on.

I love your idea for the flower girl gifts, those are super cute!
