Reschedule in the fall or 2021?

Soon To Be Mrs. Blain, on March 30, 2020 at 10:11 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
Hey all! My wedding was supposed to be in Key West, FL (I love in MI) on April 11th. We’ve cancelled 2 weeks ago, planning on the worst scenario. Plus, we wanted to make sure everyone had time to get refunds.

Now, I get asked by EVERYONE if I’m planning a later date this year or April of 2021. I just don’t know, my fiancé said we’ll go to the Keys in October (the month we delivered and lost our baby) but I don’t know if it’s fair to our guest to say...”I know you were out of work for a few months, but please plan on our destination wedding” I just can’t do that...
Anyone else dealing with this??

Our wedding date is Sept 6... I’m very hopeful that things will be better by then. But, ours is not a destination wedding like yours. I’d say if it’s only family and some close friends going, then I don’t think I’d feel too bad about expecting them to come. They will find a way since they love you.

I moved our destination wedding to 2021. I just didn’t want guests to feel wary.

Hello, Soon To Be Mrs. Blain!

I'm truly sorry that you're going through this. Postponing your wedding is not an easy decision, and it's tougher when it's not your call. BUT Key West is such a beautiful place -- I'm sure it will be equally fun and relaxing when you're able to head down there.

I believe you're on a couple of other discussions to which I've responded, so you may have seen these resources from WeddingWire: COVID-19 Wedding Support Central. You'll find articles like:

    - What to Do If You Have to Cancel Your Destination Wedding

    - You’ve Decided to Postpone Your Wedding. Now What?

    - “My Wedding Was Postponed Due to Covid-19, but Now I Get a ‘Do-Over’”

If the financial strain of this pandemic prevents some of your guests from attending, will you be OK with their absence? Will waiting until 2021 guarantee their presence? You can't control anyone's circumstances, of course, so maybe you could take an informal poll of the family and friends that you most want to see at your wedding. Their responses may help you decide your next step. In the end, you should make the decision that feels right for you. Smiley heart

Good luck with your new date, whenever it may be!

Wow, you’ve been through a lot!! Sorry this is happening!!! I haven’t had to face this situation, but I would imagine that for me it would be difficult to hold a wedding around the anniversary of a miscarriage or still birth, so I’d probably prefer to wait until 2021. On the other hand, maybe it would be good to have a joyous occasion like a wedding during that month?

I think either way your guests will understand, especially if you give them as much notice as possible.
