Reporting your wedding venue

Monica, on January 27, 2022 at 7:25 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

Hi!

So, I have a very unique scenario of where my wedding venue had some significant issues with treatment and wedding proceedings. In the end we posted a 3 star review detailing our experience with them. Since then they emailed us, called us and have harassed us about the review. Originally, I had asked my guests to refrain from posting about their negative experiences because I felt bad, but after the harassment one of them posted a 3 star honest review of their stay. (We also had problems with the rooms in the facilities being unclean). They have since then proceeded to threaten them and call them at their place of work while stating that they are going to sue me and my husband as well as our one guest. We are so heartbroken that this has come to the point where we had to file a police report! We never wanted this to escalate this far over a 3 star review. Has anyone ever had these types of issues? Any suggestions?

Wow. That is wildly unprofessional and absolutely unacceptable behavior! I am so sorry you are dealing with this; but also so glad that you didn’t allow their bullying to force you to retract your honest review! Good for you for filing a police report also!

Who called to harass you? The venue? That is super unprofessional. Where did you post the review? Unfortunately if you post a review on TheKnot/WW (same company) that is less than a glowing 5 stars WW will remove it. Professional businesses may reach out to see what they can amend but harassing you is never ok.

Post honest reviews of your experience on unbiased websites such as GoogleMaps. Yelp also has the reputation of removing less than glowing reviews. Also include the harassment as part of the experience to warn potential brides and other party planners what they are up against. Because you are being harassed for posting reviews, your next step is to contact the local Better Business Bureau and the consumer reports teams at your local news stations.

Yes, that's very unprofessional. I'm sorry you have to deal with this. If they do try to sue you, I don't think they'll win because it is a review.

I have heard of venues suing for bad reviews. Sometimes it is actually in the contract.

I think its bad business of course, but it sounds like they are bad anyway.

That is a clause that has no business being included in any contract. No one should sign one that does, which is why it is recommended to have a legal professional read over everything before you sign so you aren’t agreeing to something you didn’t know was included.

I’ve never had a experience with a venue but I have with a hotel, I left a honest review and they proceeded to call and first bribe me with a partial refund which I knew I would not get then when I refused they continued to call my phone for a few days until I told them my uncle was a lawyer then they stopped lol. That is beyond unprofessional and I will definitely make sure that is not a clause in my contract when we select a venue, you should be free to express how your event went good or bad.

I think a three star review was very generous, judging by their behavior! I would just ignore them, people like that tend to settle down and find someone else to harrass.

I'm so interested in what happened! How awful that you had to experience this in your wedding day. They should learn from the experience and move on.
