Replica Wedding Dresses

Jiggy, on August 16, 2017 at 5:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Hello! Has anyone received or purchased their bridal gown from a replica designer preferably US based? Any suggestions or recommendations? Thank you so much!

What do you mean by replica? Like a knock off of an. actual designer?

If that's true you run a big risk and having someone custom make a dress can be even more expensive. If you're looking for a designer dress without the price tag I would try a sample sale or a bridal consignment shop instead!

A knock off? Usually you get what you pay for. Cheap quality, cheap fabrics and less than great craftsmanship. I agree with PP about checking out sample sales, consignment shops, preownedweddingdresses.com

Lol nobody in the US is going to advertise their product as being "replicas" since making "replicas" without the permission of the designer is, ya know, a crime.

So you're looking for a US based knockoff company...?

Making replicas of other designs is illegal sooooo I'm pretty sure the company wouldn't advertise that...

Remember you get what you pay for. Cheap fabric may not be comfortable. Bad craftsmanship may not hold up throughout the day.

Consignment shops, wedding flea markets, or the website such as the one FME gave you may be a good start.

Also check and see if your town has an annual charity event like the one held in my town. Used and unused wedding dress are donated and then sold. The one event's proceeds benefit the local breast/cervical/uterine cancer foundation. The other event is for the local Women's Center.

    Good luck to you.

Hey there Jiggy, is there a particular dress you are hoping to emulate? Maybe we can help you find a dress from another designer that looks similar but is more affordable, rather than trying to find someone who will create a knockoff for you - as members have said, that would be a big risk for a few reasons!

You won't find a US based replica shop, as PPs have said. If you're looking for a certain style, pull up a picture and take it to your bridal appointments and see if they have something similar, maybe?

Thanks for your replies. I was more thinking of a designer, tailor, seamstress... who could sew what I have seen and want. I want a close copy with minor adjustments here and there... different colors and appliqués but similar concept. So far, I have not seen a single store that sells a gold ball gown dress that looks noteworthy.

It sounds more like you want a custom made dress! I would use the vendor tab, or try google and yelp to find a reputable seamstress in your area! Make sure she has great reviews and is experienced enough to be able to create a wedding dress!

Also if you would like a colored dress like Gold maybe try a shop that sells evening gowns! Bridal Salons tend to only have so many colored dresses!

I have tried the vendor tab but not much success there. I have tried google and there have been quite a lot of phonies out there posing as designers. Not many designers in my area to undertake the kind of job I need them to either. Thanks anyway!
