Remove wedding website from search engines.

Heather, on April 23, 2017 at 9:47 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Does anyone know if there is a way to remove my wedding website from search engines? I know there is a password protect option, but I am trying to make it so that it is not searchable at all. When I built my site, I selected "no" under the "make website searchable" setting without noticing that it only makes it un-searchable on WeddingWire. Had I known that my website would be searchable on the internet, I never would have used WeddingWire. I don't really want to password protect it now, as I have already sent my invites, which included the website address, and I would have to email all my guests and send them a password, which seems tacky. Any ideas?

Is there a reason you are concerned about it being searchable? Truth be told our wedding website was a waste of time for me. I found only the younger crowd appreciated the website and most of our older guests didn't know how to get to it. Being searchable is more user friendly in my opinion

Why do you want to hide it If you've already sent the address to people

I know when I signed up to Wedding Wire there was an option to not make it searchable on google. On The Knot, you have to email their tech department and ask them to make you not searchable. Otherwise I'm not sure about other wedding sites.

Everything you post online is searchable.

Hi Heather! As you realized, the "make my website searchable" setting on WW is only for the WW "Find A Couple" search on our website. All WW wedding websites are indexed by search engines and can therefore return as a result through a google search.

Yeah, this is one of the problems with WW -- they're ambiguous in what they tell you. I also wanted to remove our website after our wedding, but was unable to do so. Regardless of what they say, there's no way to make any website private long-term.
